  • Lowering Shift Height.

    Heya,

I will be installing my MTech short shifter next weekend (woop!) and I know it will shorten my throw but does anyone know how to reduce the height of the shifter?
Only by a little, Ideally I would like the top of the knob to be at the current bottom of the nob (1 inch - 1.5) Is there an easy way of doing this without hacking my gear stick with a saw (possibly lower it on the pivot ball?) I haven't taken the time to disassemble my centre console yet so I don't really know how it works.

    Cheers

Hope you have a tungsten(really heavy) shift knob to compensate for the shortened lever action that will tend to make shifting hard and notchy.

Hacksaw will most likely be your best option.

Needless to say this will void and warranty you may have on the car...

Typical dealer. "Don't use a hacksaw on your car, it'll void your warranty" "Don't cut the springs on your car, it'll void your warranty" "Don't do an engine swap with a tractor, it'll void your warranty"

          Where's your loyalty?

In my defence, I did post in the shoutbox immediately after my suggest,

#10:37 Dangerousfish> I've yet to hear of a DS3 owner using a hacksaw to improve their car. This should be interesting.

I doubt Fiat includes 'falling to pieces' in their warranty. They'd be having claims left, right and centre!

Is it a bit stiff with a shorter lever?

This is hardly realistic, they have managed to fit a full sized person in the back.

Yes it would be, imagine sitting on a see-saw with someone except you are halfway between the seat and the pivot. You would struggle to get them off the ground unless you apply more force (by eating lots of cake and becoming heavier than them).

Seriously though,Ben had a point about lever length with his see saw analogy.....too short a gear lever will result in more labour intensive shifting!
