New car decision

Looking at buying a DS3 as I love the design and styling. I do about 7,000 miles a year. Have looked a couple of 1.6vti models and, and this was my preference. However, reading on this forum
and on the web generally about the timing chain / tensioner issues am apprehensive. I have also looked at some of the diesel DSport models which seem
attractive from an mpg / road tax perspective. However slightly concerned that low mileage could lead to potential dpf issues. Am coming from a petrol Mazda 3 Sport which has been bulletproof reliability wise.
Any advice appreciated.

In terms of whether or not low mileage will affect a Dpf ours does about 4.5k a year and doesn't seem so far in the 2 years we've had it to have had any issues. However the OH is somewhat of a tarmac terrorist so chances are it's glowing like a shuttle on re-entry after her commute.

Timing chain issues on the petrol cars seem to trouble the THP cars more there are some normal ones but they are far rarer. If anything I rather wish ours was a VTI as it would better match the rest of the car.

Although I also own a petrol Mazda 3 and wouldn't swap it for a ds3 in a thousand years...

Thanks for the reply Steve. Have enjoyed my 3. But it's time for a change and getting another 3 wouldn't give me the change. Have been caught in the past with Renault having the 1.6 petrol with the common de phaser issue.Do trying to get forearmed before purchasing.

Fairly simple...it's measurably better in every meaningful way than our ds3 (except tax and fuel obviously). Also the dealer is competent and doesn't require jumping through hoops of fire to get a courtesy car.

However as OP would like a DS3 anyway it's of little importance. As it is between the 1.6 vti or the diesels he has picked the most reliable versions of the DS3 the vast majority of which seem to work just fine. What I would say is check out the local dealers and see if any have come up on here previously. Part of the reason I'm so annoyed with the car is the local dealer is horrendous to the point we'll be travelling 80 miles for the next service.

My dealer offers a courtesy car as standard - had one when my last car was serviced and the MOT when it needed it just before my recent change. Hey, I got new DS3's, a Cactus and a C1 !

Must say when I used Citroen dealers down here, they were great every time

Had a Cactus, Dsport diesel, diesel 90 when I got my THP serviced (And repaired LOL)
