  • Stop/ start eco mode not working

    Hi!

I've had my 66 plate givenchy DS3 for 4 months and in the last month stop / start has stopped working...

I've tried turning it off/ on, made sure the cars warmed up and also tried many long distance drives..

It was working fine and also working after a 5 minute drive down the road now won't kick in at all.

Has anyone else had the issue or know of anything else I need to try/ check to see why it's not working?

I tried searching but couldn't find any threads about it!

Any help would be appreciated before I take it to Citroen!

    Thanks in advance

    Morning!

As far as I remember there have been 2 oder 3 threads regarding such a problem.

In one of the threads the issues was the electronic of the start/stop system because it is mounted behind the lining of the front left wheel well and got wet.

But your car is almost brand new so I wouldn't assume this as the problem.

Here some threads to start with:

Hi Becci. Is your Givenchy a diesel? Do you do lots of short journeys? I've got e-HDI and my eco stop/start has stopped working occasionally. If it is a diesel, it could be coz your DS3 needs to clear out the DPF, which it will try to do automatically on occasion to clear out all the carbon build up in it. My advice would be take it for a decent run on the motorway and use 4th (or 5th if it has a 6 speed gearbox) for a good 15-20 mins, so the heat from higher revs gives DPF to burn out all the cack. I tend not to use eco on all my short journeys, unless it's had a good blast on the motorway recently. May not be the cause for yours, but worth a shot if it's a diesel.

Is the ECO light flashing? If so then your car is working as normal, there are lots of different variables which the car considers before engaging the ECO mode. With the colder weather outside it's unlikely that it will be coming on that often.

A few of these variables are discussed within the handbook.

Yeah my ECO light was flashing and the start/stop didn't activate, but after looking through the forum and handbook, found it to be perfectly normal.

              Hello..
My ds3 hd been sat for a few months when I bought it and battery was a bit low,
It had enough power to start the car but Eco mode wouldn't work and the Eco light would just blink just like you have described.
I took the car for a long drive up north, 2 me hld hours to be exact..lol and the stop start fixed itself.
Basically it seams when battery runs. Bit low the car won't do stop start, also another thing I have found is when the temperature drops below -1 the stop start won't work either ,
              Hope this helps

I've got the same problem with my 66 plate Diesel. Stop/start hasn't worked for about 8 weeks now and although I see above that this is deemed "normal" I never had this with my previous DS3????

and although I know the battery has to be at it's peak for the engine to stop I have even tried a week's driving without the radio and heating on (it was bloody freezing lol)to give the battery a chance to charge fully but start/stop still didn't work

I tried the same initially but it didnt seem to be enough for the battery or perhaps the stop start system. If i understand it correctly there is a capacitor inside the front left wing which assists the auto start procedure. This needs to be fully charged to operate correctly. So local driving will top up your battery yet not top up the capacitor.
Hence mine started working once it had been on a long continuous drive and has been working since. If anything when the weather dropped cold i tend to turn the autostart function off until then engine is fully up to temp.

Stupid question, was your last DS3 a diesel? Have you given it a good long blast on the motorway in the second highest gear? If I'm doing lots of short journeys, I tend to take the ECO off unless it's had a good run on the motorway recently.

I've read the manual and it lists things like door open, seat belt not fastened, demisting active, battery charge, engine temp, not exceeding 6mph since last engine start..

                        Mines a petrol 1.2 turbo

I've tried long drives, took it on a motorway today for a long run, it's warm enough, it's not been sat for days, ive been taking it long distances purposely to try get it to work.. it worked fine when I first got it and I've done nothing different I just can't get it to kick in...

This is my second DS3 but first one with this function so can't really compare it with anything just doesn't seem right to say it was kicking in after driving 5 minutes down the road to not kicking in after an hour and a half drive!

All I can do is ask Citroen the question and see what they say.. if it's 'normal' then it's a pretty pointless function as all it does is flash on the dashboard for a second then disappears and never actually kicks in anymore..

If the dashboard is flashing then the system is working fine!

There are over 20 variables for the DS3 which determine whether or not the system kicks in, outside temperature, brake pressure, voltage load, etc.

During the winter months I doubt you would see the system go fully into stop mode that often so I really won't worry about it.

Ok, thanks. Will wait and see if it kicks back in when the weather improves
