  • How to change the main 12v battery ?

    Hi all
i have a 2010 110 DS3 diesel, i have got a new battery but just cannot see how you change it ? i have removed the cover but cant see any bracket that is holding the battery in place.
Any help appreciated, video would be even better lol !
    Thanks

Just a guess, but if you look at the base of the battery you'll probably see a clamping plate held in place by a bolt (usually just one, possibly two). It could be at the end or along the side of the battery. Depending how easily accessible it is, you may need a socket & an extension to unscrew it.

I dont think it's that simple ! I have had cars for 40 years and fought the same, however there's no room between the battery and the plastic case it's in, looks to me like the plate and. Opt is located under the ECU which is right next to the battery, so think you have the remove the ECU to reach the bolt, if so how do you remove the ECU ?

I didn't have to remove the battery from my DS3 so far but I had to do it a few times on a Peugeot 207.
There you have to pull pull out the ECU on the left side next to the battery.
Afterwards you can remove the battery using a lever on the right side. Except for dismounting the cables no tools are needed.

The battery just wedges itself in place.

Sounds the same, my ECU is next to the battery, does the ECU just pull up or do you have to undo something somewhere ?

In the Peugeot the ECU was fastened in a few plastic clips. No screws or something. Don't know how it is in the DS3.
After removing the ECU I could tilt the battery to the left while releasing the right lever(this lever is part of the battery housing) and lift it out.

I had to swap mine after installing my air ride. It took a while to figure it out.
I removed the 12V lead , unbolted the large wire from the distribution plate that i think goes to the starter motor.
Then the distribution board can be slid backwards and removed from the battery cover.
Lift the battery cover up at the front, push it backwards then lift it up so the tabs release at the back.
Then you can remove the negative contact. Next you have to remove the ECU, unplug the 3 connectors.
I couldn't figure out how to properly release it, but with a bit of force it unclipped.
It seems there is a clip on the rear edge of the ECU plastic bracket.
Directly underneath the ECU is a clamp plate, 1 bolt and it releases the battery.
Take out old battery, put new one in, then follow these steps backwards to re-fit it all.
Hope this makes sense, I'm no mechanic but i managed

I finally got round to having a look at mine on Saturday. I couldn't believe that the battery wouldn't have some form of positive clamp; turns out that the lever at the left hand side as you look at it (RHS of car) isn't, as I'd always thought, a catch for the cover. It actually clamps onto the ridge around the bottom of the battery to hold it in place.
