  • Car due a service, is it really though?!

Hi guys, bought our 2nd DS3 in July last year and its been pretty much flawless since we had it.

It was serviced last March and MOT'd in July and its done about 3000 miles since the service.

The service spanner has now come on and Ive had the dealer ringing me saying its due for a service, but id rather wait until June and get the service and MOT done together using the Citroen fixed price maintenance thingy.

Question is, can i get rid of the spanner icon on the dash??

The service spanner can be removed just by following a couple simple instructions or a video from YouTube but if the car is within warranty you may want to get it done still so that you can keep the warranty in case anything goes wrong.

Otherwise you can just follow these instructions from Google to remove the service indicator if your warranty has expired or your not bothered about it.
Press and hold the Trip button, and turn the ignition switch to the “On” position. Continue to hold down the Trip button until “0” MILES appears on the display and the maintenance light turns off. Turn the ignition off and then start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset.

The instructions for resetting are also in your handbook. As Berch mentioned take a good hard look at the warranty question.

The service indicator coming on after 3,000 miles suggests that it wasn't reset at the last service.

Check in your Maintenance & Warranty Guide to see what the last service was - if it was a "Routine Service", the one in orange, you don't necessarily need a service this year as the annual service is optional.

Servicing is where dealers make their money!

Yearly service on newer cars instead of 2 year like our old ones.

Yet another reason for not buying a new one!

Just be careful that if it's due a service and it's still got warranty on the car then they might say it's void as you've gone past when it service is due.

Its a 13 plate and only has 3 months left on the warrenty so not really a concern. Thanks guys, i'll re-set it and get the service and MOT done together in June
