  • New Xenon Light LED Strip

    Hi!

I've seen videos on the new Xenon lights - they do look amazing.

I was wondering if the LED that arches around stays on in daytime (alongside the daytimes lower) or if they just turn on once the headlights are turned on?

    Thanks in advance

Pretty sure the xenon lights do have LED daytime running lights, although not sure what part of it. Probably it is the bit you described

Yeah the part that the indicators swoosh with orange - that white LED I was hoping would be daytime so I can get them on my 64 plate.

        Hey,

I thought they did have DRLs on them too but I haven't seen a single DS3 with the Xenon headlights that have DRL lights on them other than the ones at the bottom. So either they just don't have them or every DS3 I have seen with the Xenon headlights has had them retrofitted like me.. So you can get them fitted on your DS3 because I did the same, everything works the headlights and the swooshing indicators, also when the lights are on, the led's around the light are on and does look great I must say.

Yeah I pretty much want the halos around the outside to always be on - during nighttime and daylight - could the wiring be altered somehow? I would 100% install them if they do

Depends if they are separately powered or are only powered when the standard headlights are on, if they are separate might be easier to do. Although this is part of the headlight itself as opposed to a daytime running light so while it may look cool at night, not sure what people are going to think driving around in the day time with them on and also doubling the life time usage of them. You'd have to do a little more research to see how they are wired to find out if you can get them powered all the time.

They are only on when headlights are on . If you switch headlights on in daylight you cannot really notice them on as they are not bright enough unless its a dark day.

Hopefully someone has already done it - as silly as it sounds I don't really drive at night time so the fancy lights wouldn't get used as much 😰

As for leaving headlights always on so the led is on - that would then knock off the normal day lights instead of having both of them on. Fingers crossed someone's tinkered and done it already 😂😂

i think the halo part of the light is to make you more visible from the side at night - with that and the way the back light curves round, the car is very well lit side on. During the day the DRL's are exactly the same as the standard lights. On side lights, the front LED's come on dimly without the halo, the halo only comes on with dipped and full beam.

i agree during the day, the halo would make a cool light signature......

Remove the bulbs, never drive at night. You're welcome!

The side DRL's are the only daytime running lights on the DS3

If the halo is designed to be on a night would that mean it wouldn't be very visible during the day? The DRL's are reaaalllly bright at night, so by that reckoning, with the halo designed to be on AT night and not as bright as the DRL's would they even be visible during the day?

There are also some rules about DRL's:

UK DRLs must emit at least 200 candela straight ahead, and no more than 800 candela in any direction.

                      https://www.gov.uk/government/public...running-lights
DRL are necessarily bright to ensure they are visible in the daytime but not so bright that they will
dazzle others. However they are too bright for night time use and are not intended to illuminate the
road in the dark. If used at night they will cause dazzle and discomfort to others and so drivers
should always switch to their position lamps or headlamps at night.
