  • Toll Tag Install Position?

    Hi everyone,

I'm 5 weeks in to owning my first DS3. A Yellow/Black 1.2 130 Prestige. I travel to France very often being in the Channel Islands. I've got a Liber-T Toll tag for the French motorways and want to know where to place this on the windscreen so it works without a problem. (Similar to the M6 Toll Tag) The General instructions are to place it directly or just to the left behind the rear view mirror and in a Mottled/shaded area to avoid interference from Athermic / Metallic windscreens . However The Active city braking system is directly behind the rear view and there isn't any mottled or shaded areas for the tag. Is the DS3 windscreen Athermic or metallic? if not then I can just place it to the left of the active city baking kit otherwise where should it go?

Thanks in advance. Here's a picture of my yellow beauty!

    I hope this helps:

    https://www.saneftolling.co.uk/support/tag-installation

Some vehicles are known to have equipment in the mottled area such as rain sensors or automatic emergency braking sensors. E.g. Volvo XC60 / 90, some Mercedes.
The mottled / shaded area behind the rear view mirror will be free of any heat reflective metallic coating that is sometimes applied to the glass in the factory to reflect the sun and keep the car cool on a hot day. The tag must go in the mottled area as it is free of any heat reflective coating, so the signal to it is not blocked by the metallic coating on the glass.
In situations like this we have had it reported back to us by customers who have such vehicles that fixing the tag on the middle of the plastic casing of the equipment that is occupying the mottled/shaded area has been successful.
However our recommendation is that you contact your vehicle manufacture and ask them to key in your registration number and check if you have a heat reflective windscreen fitted, if you do then you should ask the dealer where in the screen your toll road tags should be positioned so it can be read if no mottled area has been provided for toll road tags.

Thanks dangerousfish. I've already seen this but the tag requires line of sight. Which it's not going to have stuck to the back of the active city brake kit on the windscreen and I can't take that off. Not without it having warranty implications.

Has anyone got a toll tag? Or know if the windscreen is Athermic / Metallic ?

It's not something I've seen mentioned here before, I would contact your Citroen dealer and ask for advice, since they have all the info and can contact CUK if they don't.

Thanks Bens. I've already contacted DS and they're only suggestion if it doesn't work on the windscreen is to hold it out the window as required.

Surprising I appear to be the only DS3 user that's got a toll tag. Guess I'll just have to try it and see if it works correctly. Although would be nice to know in advance.

You wouldn't have thought it was exactly uncommon to have a toll tag in a DS3, particularly as the tags are in much more regular use in France and the DS3 is actually a French car!
Or is the windscreen spec different in UK DS3s?

Might be worth ringing a DS / Citroen dealership in France and asking them. I assume it's far more commonl used over there?

Could not apply the Toll Tag to the bottom edge of the City Brake unit?

The other option might be to put a post up on the French owners club?

                    Hi

We’ve just taken my wife’s 2016 Ultra Prestige to France.

i installed the sensor right at the top of the windscreen immediately to the left of the active brake sensor pod.

it worked a treat, though I must admit we were a bit dubious about going through the 30kph barrier. That worked with no problem too.

I believe than any windscreen which has a treatment to reduce UV radiation etc WILL have a mottled area each side of the rear view mirror to indicate a area that HASNT been treated where the tag will work. You will almost certainly be fine to mount the tag by the rear view mirror.

Late reply, but I've just driven down through France in my DS3 and stuck the tag on the top of the windscreen to the left of the mirror and it worked perfectly. I was a bit nervous going through the 30 lane but it worked great every time and I was soon flying past the queues of people faffing about with change.
