  • DS3 on the motorway

    Hi

Took a 1.6 120 DS3 for a test drive yesterday and was pleasantly suprised how nice it was to driva and the level of comfort and internal quality as never been in a Citroen before.

My concern is I need to do a 120 mile trip on the M4 each way once a week and worried about the noise level and revs, can anyone let me know how it is on the motorway?

    Thanks in advance

I have the 120. Its not noisey at all going along. I do 50 miles a day and do a stretch of motorway. Have driven her to Dartmouth, Brtstol and Newcastle on larger motorways, and goes along fine!

I think the DS3 has a lot of soundproofing, and noise is minimal.

I can't comment on the 120 petrol, I have the 1.6HDi 90 and have taken that on the 120mile trip from home to Bromsgrove several times and have never been worried by noise etc.
The Diesel cruises @ 70 effortlessly with just over 2000 revs.....My advice would be to try one of the diesels and especially the sports seats.
If costs are an issue the diesels both have lower emissions than the petrol engines (and therefore lower road fund license costs).
All the DS3's have cruise control (and a speed limiter for the "Specs" controlled sections of motorway)

Road noise isn't an issue for me. I'm in a petrol Dsport with a modified exhaust meaning it's a bit louder than most and I never notice the road noise.

With regards to the long journey. I've just got back from a weekend in France and have been comfortable every single mile! Leather seats are definitely worth the extra £

At normal crusing speeds, I find the car quiet and refined. With the 6 speed box, the engine is turning over about the 2250 rpm mark at 70.

"What Car", in their first road test of the 120, commented on the "constant drone from under the bonnet" at motorway speeds. In reality, the engine isn't totally inaudible but I don't find it at all intrusive. Overall, I'd say my 120 is a more pleasant car to drive on motorways than the 2-litre Alfa 147 it replaced - not much difference in engine noise levels & lower tyre noise.

I have the 120 and can't say on numerous trips on motorways that I have noticed any excessive noise from my engine x

Glad you agree Phil, that would of been my suggestion also. At the end of the day, if there's road noise there isn't much you can do other than look at a quieter car. I for one love being able to hear how the car sounds including the engine and how much traction I have. It gives a better feel for the car.

I don't do too many motorway miles however when I'm do I'm usually too busy focusing on the cars around me for road noise to be a factor.

Just as everyone has said, the road noise is minimal and with a bit of good music it should clear it out all together
