  • DS3 Wheels and other suggestions

    Hello Everybody

Just started lurking around on the page since i'm about to buy a 1.6 HDI - DS3 today.

i first started to look at the suspension, and tried to look at, as many post I could find, and I think i'm going to settle with 35mm lowering springs.
Since that seemed to be the "best" middle ground, cause 45 mm could cause the dampers to bottom out.

I'm open for manufactures to different springs, since I have no prior experience with this.

Then Secondly I am looking for new wheels to the DS3, since it will be delivered on Wintertires.

I have been looking at the Dotz Kendo in both versions - in 17 incheshttps://www.google.dk/search?q=dotz+...w=1366&bih=662

    and the Dezent TI http://www.dezent-wheels.com/EN/prod...dezent-ti-dark

and ofcourse the Bellone 17 from Citröen.

    But i'm open to suggestions.
in both the case with other suspension options and wheels.

    Best Regards Thomas

I'll give this a bump for you - get some more replies

Wheels like the ones you have posted are really popular - Team Dynamic 1.2's, OZ Racing superturismo with a Rally kind of look.

But again for more of a 'Euro look' a lot of guys have gone for deeper dished cross wires like Calibre Vintage

Just as a matter of interest.

Do insurance companies charge a lot when you modify things like suspension or is just when you modify the car to make it accelerate faster?

They charge you more for anything they can! I changed valve caps and they wanted an extra 30 quid a year!! Kidding, but seriously though, any changes that you make that are outside the original looks, performance and OEM stuff, they can and probably will charge you extra for. It's always worthwhile checking with them before you change anything, just to see how much it affects your premium. You might be lucky, Berch did a full facelift and it didn't affect his at all, whereas BenS wanted to add a triple r splitter and they wouldn't insure him, as it was "performance enhancing??!!!"

OEM parts - probably ok unless you're gaining power through higher spec parts, but still check.

Literally anything else - prepare to be shafted. Maybe when renewing look into a modified car specialist insurer and say what your plans are to see what they say.

I think a very large factor is age: 23 y.o. me wanting to mod = boy racer dangerous nutjob, 40+ y.o. someone else = probably knows what they are doing and will be safer.

(Of course, this is a load of arse, the worst drivers I see are always middle-aged businessmen in their M4s, A5s, and similar German saloons. I do see a few young idiots in Astras, Civics and Golfs but never as often as the former)

I always had a curiousity about this. I've replaced the OEM suspension on my BMW with Bilstein, but the B4 kit which is designed as OEM replacement.

Would you count this as a mod? Because I wouldn't personally...

B4's are original equipment replacement parts, so no not a "Mod"
