  • Strange Fuel Problem

I have had a problem filling up with fuel the last few days, at first I figured I must be mad but now I know its not me! The problem is I cant get any fuel in the tank, as soon as I squeeze the nozzle it just shuts off as tho the tank is full, the only way to get any fuel in is to squeez really lightly so it does a few pence at a time and even then after a few mins it just over spills on to the floor! I know the car is not full of fuell as I have been teaching all day in it!

    Any Ideas?

mine does this at certain fuel stations aswell its more than likely the shape of the fuel filler neck, because the fuel cant go down into the tank fast enough it shuts the pump off. think it depends on how fast the fuel comes out the nozzle which will differ from station to station. when it does it stop for approx 5 seconds and gradually start pressing the fuel trigger until you get to a fast enough flow. not max.

Thanks for the reply Nickh, I have only ever used the same garage (tesco) was fine last week, think I even used the same pump from last week, doesnt seem to make any differnce if only do it lightly as I did this tonight and now I just smell of diesel as it just spurts back on me!

sounds daft but sometimes its just the angle youve got the fuel nozzle into the filler neck try giving it a twist clockwise to angle the flow of fuel towards the tank a bit more.
i have this problem all the time at work. i think the diesel nozzles were invented to fill up massive truck tanks not delicate ds3 tanks...

Yes, as above check the angle, I have to fill the diesels every day and they can be a little tricky with cirtain nozzels at stations. Some just a little more sensitive then others but the angle helps

well I have just tried again and it has taken me 25 mins to put 10 quids worth in and it is full to the brim (you can even see the fuel down the hole!) but there is no way its full as I have been teaching in it for the last 3 days all day so I guess its going to the dealer in the morning!

            Update..

AA have been out and they are just as stumped as I am, so as suspected its down to the dealer.

Hi germinus... what did the dealer do about this in the end if anything? Seem to be having similar problems!
