  • Dsign or HDI 1.6 Black?

Hi guys, I'm Matt from Essex

Been reading through this forum for the past week trying to get as much inside information before committing to my purchase.

I have been looking at 2 ex show cars. One is a Dsign 1.4 and the other is an HDI 1.6 Black.
The price difference is 3 thousand pounds.

Now they have a similar low mileage and are in the colour I prefer.

From my resaerch I have found the Diesel 1.6 has the following which the Dsign doesn't

    70mpg v 45mpg
    Tax band C v Tax band E
    17 inch Alloys v Steel
Tinted rear windows v normal glass
Front led lights v no led lights
Air con v no air con

Is there anything else major or small and picky I may have missed here?

The wallet is saying go for the Dsign and pay a grand on styling it,

The eyes like what they see over diesel lane!!

    Thanks guys

    1.6!

It depends on what YOU want!

I changed from my first ever car to my 2nd ( 1.4 C3) I was chuffed enough that the windows where electric and it locked remotely!

I have the 1.6vti DStyle with Hifi upgrade and chrome strips. Not fussed about the aircon, not the be all for me. This is my first new build and if I was to start with a Dsign and add to what I <3 about my car now, I'd add the tinted windows, chrome side strips, LEDS and Hifi. (Thats ignoring the fact that I want a petrol Dsport )

      Sounds great!

If i were to add these things, how much would they roughly cost each.

I really fancy some in car entertainment also so are there any good units out there or is the myway the only upgrade option?

      Thanks

After market? Couldn't tell you! Someone will!

Mine was a Connect signature pack. Think its std on a Dsport. And My Way is an optional extra. I think also if you get the Myway, you lose the USB connection you'd get with the Connect.

Have you cross ref'd the brochore? I spent hours flicking through it!

If that was the choice facing me I would spend the extra and get the diesel, you will make some of the extra 3 grand back with the savings in fuel, also you'll have the extra kit from the start.

Residuals will be better on the HDi too, (a) because it's a diesel and (b) because you lose value big-time on extras added to a low-spec car, as dealers tend to pay the book price for that model, irrespective of any added-on kit.

On the other hand, remember that servicing will be a bit more expensive on the diesel as the petrol has 20k service intervals, & if you're buying an ex-demo you probably won't get the £199 service deal.

+1 to this. I must also say that the drive of the diesel is awesome. I have the 90Ehdi and it drives really nicely. You get an Aux connection in the Black edition also, not sure this comes with the Dsign. Drive em both and see what you think.

The best advice is as already said, you need to drive both of both and that will help you decide.

The Diesel is going to hold it's value better in the long run, but of course you are going to have to pay extra for it anyway. At the end of the day you need to settle with the car that suits you and your wallet, in my line of work I see lots of people go for the budget buster and it always ends in tears.

                So to recap;

Drive both car and do the sums, don't forget to check things like insurance and servicing costs.
