  • The cost of waiting.......

Ok, so my DS3 is due in any day next week, but looks like I'm on the bus to work until it arrives as the clutch on my C1 is definately on it's way out and there is no way it is coming between me and the DS3, especially at a cost of between £400-£700 to fix. Infact, the whole reason for trading it in at this part of the finance deal was to avoid such problems, that are notorious with the C1/107/Aygo.............I know this because before this one, I previously had an 07 plate C1........great cars, don't get me wrong, in terms of 'cheap' motoring but the cost starts biting back at around 30k miles. First the clutch went at around 35k which I was well shocked by (seriously if you think it's just my driving, just type in C1 clutch in google......I'm not the only one, lol), then about 2 weeks later the exhaust fell off so had to get that replaced. So this time, I thought, no, I'm not getting caught out, especially when it's coming up for it's first major-ish service as well and the brake pads will need doing - thought it better to get a new car than to pay out for the various things the C1 will need when it's going back in another year anyway. So erm yea, long story short, ever since i put my name down for the DS3, I've been acutely aware of the clutch n my car and noticed it getting slippy, wasn't sure if it wasn't just paranoia on my part at first, but last night i smelt that dreaded clutch burn when i was turning round in a cul-de-sac and thought oh no! So yes, I have taken the executive decision to stop driving my car now and wait.........this thing is getting to the dealer's unscathed if it kills me. Very annoying though, especially when I was meant to have DS3 a week ago.

I'm in the same position as you. I'm also expecting my Ds3 next week and my part exchange vehicle, a C3, is also knackered. The difference is I rented a car to save the C3 from any more deterioration. Unfortunately my delivery time doubled from 8 to 16 weeks and so I have shelled out over £2K on hire car charges, completely wiping out my trade-in value. Hey ho!

Ah, that's crap! Such a pain, yea my delivery time keeps going up n up, was told last week at first, then the 20th, now, latter end of next week. That's not a bad idea though about the hire car, might look into that for a week, gutted for you though, its an absolute pain isn't it when you can't get a straight answer about when your car will be ready, its starting to really annoy me now. First lesson in customer service eh, customers appreciate honesty rather than false hope. ,

Ah great, well that's that idea down the pan, you have to be 25 to hire a car, last time I needed to this I got told I had to be 21 so looks like they've moved the goal posts again! Fabulous, I might just give up on motoring all together at this rate. Lol.

I traded a car whose gear box was dying. The car was bought with 4k on the clock, ran for 2 years, mainly on the motorway and was looked after like all of my cars. I traded it praying that the box would hold out as we did not have a second car otherwise it was a £1700 bill! I feel sorry for the dealer who will have realised their mistake somewhere along the line.

We are quick to winge about dealers and the cars we buy from them, but forget we often trade them lemons that were once reasonable cars!

I don't know how they get the vehicles from Calais to Sheerness (ship, I presume), but I'm sort of hoping it will be at Sheerness pretty soon, Thursday according to Biggy's spreadsheet. I can't wait.

I'm at the other end of the age range regarding hire cars, I think they get awkward when you pass 70 - 5 years to go for me.

Have you tried an independent hire company, not the usual Herz or Europcar? My company uses a local one and I'm sure the students we take on are allowed to drive their cars.

I got a trade in quote based on a max number of miles whilst waiting. I had to swap cars with my wife for a month to keep the mileage down!!!

Pain - but got there in the end with about 50 miles spare!

I was lucky enough not to have any extra expense whilst waiting over 7 months for my Racing to arrive. I live within walking distance of work ( less than a mile ) so don't use the car for commuting, my 5 year old C2 only had just over 25k on the clock when I traded her in. I was expecting the Racing before the end of March, but was informed mid Feb that there would be a few weeks delay. The C2's MOT was due at the end of March, I spoke to my dealer about this and they agreed to MOT the car free of charge.

The wait however long & painful will be worth it
DS3 Racing, also available in White!!!

Well guys, bit of an update, the dealer contacted me today to say that is my clutch goes I can borrow his car......a white DS3 no doubt, haha (not sure what this meant entirely), but still decided not to risk it, mum n dad are giving me lifts to/from work this week and hoping I'll have it by the end of the week (fingers crossed), also my dad is going to tow me as close to the dealership as possible and then I'm just going to drive the car around the corner to it, haha. Not risking anything, after being involved in two previous embarrasing clutch related brake downs in my time.
