Clearly some lad trying to show off in his dads car.

Technically though it's the fault of the car who was behind him.. As far as I know it'll be on their insurance as they should have stopped / shouldn't have been following so close

Lol I reckon he hit the brake instead of the clutch. Try braking with your left foot bet you will slam the brakes on.

Well I've just checked mine and from what I can see not only is there a big steel guard over the linkage, but the connecting rod is also a heavy tube, I could not get the slightest hint of movement from my brake pedal when pressing this area or trying to roll the tube forward.

I know this was a problem with the C3 but i think it was rectified for the DS3. The guy's heard that the DS3 is developed from the C3 and tried to blame that issue on his crash.

Not always the case. If your driving too close to the car in front then yes, but if that car had just cut in infront of you and then braked because they had misjudged the traffic conditions etc then it wouldn't be the fault of the car behind.

I tried again on Saturday (while my wife was driving); pushing down on the cross-bar, lifting it, trying to rotate it with foot pressure, trying to get my foot under the guard, no way could I get the brakes to come on - couldn't even get enough movement to pause the cruise control.

This claim made the news section of AutoExpress this week. They claim to have done an independent test in which they were also able to operate the brake pedal on a DS3 from the passenger side. Citroen still investigating the original claim.

Allegedly early Fiat 500' 08 - 09 models had this problem as well. Strangley my 08 plate 500 1.3 never suffered from the left seat driver braking problem. We know what the simples answer is? Drive the car one up, no problems and less weight. Just think of the 0.1 x 10-(whaterver) seconds off your 0 - 60 you would save!

                              Brake Fault

hi all i am the driver of the DS3 you are all talking about got some pic's and a video of it being done i hope it work's so you can all see it.

just so everyone know's my mum has taken the blame for the crash and everything is going though here insureance as she hit the back of me...... so not trying to blame something else for the crash or cover up anything as that part of it has already been dealt with.

however this did not take away the problem of why my dad's 2 week old DS3 stopped like this.

hope this let's everyone know what people have been saying about my driving family etc etc is wrong and here is the prove of it.

and also we have had the boss of citroen swansea in our car while he was driving round the car park of the showroom and my father stopped the car from the passenger side which the boss and the man who sold us the car have both admited to.

                              thanks for your time.

Look I don't want to be funny or anything, but I tried to do this on DS3's in the showroom and couldn't get to work. Looking closer at the video your friend is having to put a lot of pressure on the bar in order to move the brake, not something that could happen 'accidentally' in my opinion. As Stef has already shown the brake ball has a steel shield already in order to stop things like this happening so I would ask you to post a picture of where your foot has to be in order to do this please.
