6th gear required in 5 speed box?

Hi, been lurking on here for a while but first post. Bought my wife a 1.6Vti Dstyle new last Sept (follows a C4) and really like it EXCEPT, at 60mph it is doing 3000rpm and I feel it just so lacks a 6th gear, just seems a little noisy or is it the 17'' wheels and tyres? Anyone else feel same way?

My 90HDi Does 60 Nicely At Just Under 2000...

But Yeah I Miss A 6th Gear =(

Sounds about right, my Saxo was on 3500rpm @ 70mph.
Diesels do rev lower mind, however I have a 6th gear and wish there was 7th. The fact the car wants me in 6th at about 52mph and it can go a lot faster means for efficiency there needs to be another gear in my mind.

I would have preferred a 6-speed box, but at motorway speeds engine noise is little more than a background hum, so from the noise point of view I don't really find the lack of a sixth gear a serious problem.

The 6th gear does help a lot, just tipping 2000revs at 70 in 6th and still getting great mpg

Having had a few cars with 6-speed boxes (Fiat GP sporting, Mini Cooper S - even the missus' Fiat 500 1.4) I really miss a 6th in my current mazda - 1) because it knackers the economy and 2) because every so often I try to throw it into reverse where 6th should be at 70mph. Must admit the lure of the 6 sped box swayed me towards the THP - not that i needed much swaying!

I could bear it no longer! Car went into garage and they lent us a Petrol DSport....with that 6 speed box! That made up my mind, took their car back and did a deal on a new DSport, same colour combo as the DStyle we hv but thats no prob as we like the colour anyway - dealer managed to find one in UK with the extras we wanted and shd collect in a week or so.

Yeah. Got mine in March and here are my top 3 thoughts....

1. Wish it had a 6 speed box
2. Glad I only took a 2 year lease because by then they'll be as common as BMW's

Hi, remember you don't have to wait two years, I paid mine off straight away (just took the deal to get the £1500 deposit contribution!)...

Then you're free to swap when you like...
