  • Chain Cam Rattle?

I have a 1.4 Dstyle DS3 and have recently noticed a rattle on startup. It usually lasts about five minutes. I'm convinced that it is the cam chain.

I was told that the tension relies upon oil pressure, so as the pressure increases the rattle diminishes.

Is this noise normal? I have a sample below (it gets noticable around 00:40).

My other car is an X-Trial and it sounds like a bag of spanners being thrown down the stairs until it has warmed up. It could be, as explained to me, that it is a noisy engine. The X-Trial has 114K now, still noisy, no oil burn and still going strong. Hopefully you ahve nowt to woory about..............keep us informed if you find something out.

Mines the same for a few minutes from start up coz its cold and all the oils at the bottom, so it's normal it happens to most cars now.

Thanks for letting me know that it is normal. I will cancel next weeks garage appointment (they wouldn't have heard it anyway since it takes me 30 minutes to get there!).
