  • Recommend an Oil.

I used to use Magnatec for my old Clio and was going to use the same for the DS. A friend told me that Magnatec has a tendency of sludging up. Not sure whether there is any truth in that?

YOUR ONLY ALLOWED TO USE TOTAL OIL IN YOUR DS3 ENGINE !

Any Other Oil Voids Your Engine Warranty...

Hi folks – tbh any oil will sludge up dependant on how long it has been in the engine and importantly what it has been subjected too.

So from the pic above, this says you can use a synthetic based SAE 0w30 or 5w30 in the petrol engine and 5w30 in the diesel engine. The synthetic part means basically it has been manufactured rather than being a refined mineral oil or a semi synthetic which is a mix of synthetic and mineral oil. The 0w30 refers to the viscosity (thickness) of the oil at different temperatures.

Using another brand of oil would not void the warranty - that is why they quote the standard that the oil needs to be to go in the engine (B71 2296 and B71 2290) Other brands will meet this standard and be approved for use in the engine. You will also see things called ACEA specifications too. Maybe using the wrong grade or an oil that does not meet the standard would void it?

Citroen will only ever list oils made by Total as Total have the factory fill deal – ie every car that leaves the factory will have Total oil / fluid(s) in the car. The same for Ferrari & Shell etc
Not sure what the Citroen dealerships in the UK use in their service?

If you have the cash to spend, you can’t get much better than top tier Mobil products. The Shell Helix Ultra range is up there too.

The link below may help http://www.shell.com/home/page/produ...lubematch.html

Click on the outline of the car and then fill in engine model details etc

If you value the car at all, I'd recommend only the Total Ineo ECS 5W30 for the diesel model.

I will be using the same stuff in my petrol THP model, but in Australia it's cheaper to buy the real stuff (from a Peugeot dealer) than an equivalent ACEA C2 oil from another brand.

If you look around you will find alternatives that do comply (ie 5W30 C2 or even the exact PSA approval number B71 2290).

They cant void a warranty for not putting a certain brand of oil in! As long as its the right grade its fine

I know for sure the Multifranchise dealer i used to work at (inc Citroen) used Castrol in their services apart from C1s as they take a different grade

When it comes to oil you need to make sure that the standard of oil being put into the engine matches PSA exact standard set for that engine and you will need to prove that if a defect in the engine occurs at a later stage. If Citroen discover that you have been using a non-standard oil that is not up to standard then this will cause your warranty to become void.

PSA recommends Total oil as it matches the standard set and yes there is a supply deal in place much like the tyres on the DS3. Citroen dealers are required to stock the oil and use it as part of they brand standards which dealers must maintain.

My advice would be to double check with your dealer before you start pouring in different oils just to make sure that you don't upset your warranty.
