  • Car ordered, pick up date in 10 days..is there still time to negotiate a better deal?

OK so I've been anxiously waiting for my car to be delivered to my local dealership - as I wanted a 61 reg I told them to wait til 1st Sept (that's a separate issue which you have already given your opinions on!)

Now listen to this.. Citroen called me up at the weekend saying this same dealer has some great deals on new and used Citroens. They obviously didn't have me in their system as having already ordered a car.
When I mentioned that and said is it still worth going to have a look, what if I find a car that is cheaper there, could I go for it? they actually said why don't you see if they will drop the price! I didn't actually go to this event in the end, but it did make me think. Dealers are incentivised to get 61 reg out, right? As I have been led to believe they have targets set every 6 months. So should I be making the dealer work harder for this deal?

So, your opinion please as to what you can and should do in this situation.

I am not one for leaving the car dealer with the car I spec'ed and ordered, I don't want to go for another spec car, it's taken me long enough to choose this one, including the colour and it might take even longer to get another car. BUT could I use this situation to my advantage and negotiate the price down? I haven't signed the lease papers yet so this is the time to think about such things. Would appreciate any advice you can give me on how to get money off, or things thrown in.. (so far they only added the £100 chrome mirrors but I'm sure they're still getting a very good profit out of it). I'm not very familiar with this process. Like everyone I like a good deal but I don't want to threaten to walk away.

    Ta,
    Nousj

PS unlike most of you I haven't managed to build up a rapport with my dealer as the guy who sold me the car has left, and I've never met the manager who is now dealing with my 'case'. I also have never received any emails from them or Citroen Central!

If you have signed an order form than I would say that you are going to have a hard time changing the numbers on your deal, but without seeing or knowing about any of your paperwork it's hard to say.

That this late stage I doubt you will be able to achieve anything.

In regards to the phone call from Citroen, I must say that I have never heard of Citroen calling customers direct like that so I wonder if it was really the dealers own marketing department that called you.

By the way is your car on a business lease or personal lease (Elect 4)?

Hi Bigfeet, thanks for replying. It's a personal lease (Elect 4) for 3 years. I thought it might be a bit late to change things now but it was worth asking... I'd like to know I got a good deal and after reading some of the posts about how people negotiated a better deal or went through online dealerships I nearly felt cheated! Maybe I could just ask for the dealer to throw in some extras? They do that sometimes right?

The only thing you maybe look at is what the numbers would be on Elect 3 rather then Elect 4 as there are some deposit contributions that you would able to take advantage of.

OK so how is Elect 3 different than Elect 4? I'm not sure which one I went for now... Can you have Elect 4 for 3 years or does the number indicate the number of years you are tied to the lease?
I am also part exchanging my 5-year-old C2 which they are giving me £3750 for. I'm wondering if I could get more

Elect 4 only runs for 4 years and offers 4 choices, handback, PX, pay GFV or 'peppercorn'. Elect 3 runs for either 24, 30, 36 months which the choices of handback, PX or pay GFV.

The difference between the two is that Elect 3 is a PCP (personal contract lease) and Elect 4 is a Personal Lease.

OK in that case I think I have Elect 3.. btw dealer just called me, registration has been assigned and he wants me to come and sign the paperwork on Thursday. So I assume there is no more maneuvering to be done
