  • DS3's in the snow

    Guys/Gals

After having my TT Quattro for the past 7 plus years, it has served me well in all the snow we have had in the past couple of winters, never getting stuck in the worst snow i have seen for many years, and i live in the highest part of the West Midlands and have to drive up some pretty steep hills.

I was just wondering how the DS coped in last winters snow (for you peeps who had through last winter)

    Regards

    Graham,

You read my mind, I thought the other day I must post that question as my one and only ever alloy scuff was last winter when at ten miles per hour I took a business call (via my bluetooth I hasten to add) and slid and hit a curb (was like the end of the world lol).....so I thought worth checking what people have found with our 'little cars'...

So folks your experience of performance in ice as well as snow please?

    Regards,
    Clive.

(ps Graham have sent you that info we discussed).

Biggie will disagree and say it's just down to driver incompetence, but in all honesty my DSport was utter pants in the snow last year. I got stuck several times in my own driveway, and was snowed in for days. I put it down to the Potenzas, which were even worse in snow than the Eagle F1s and Toyo Proxes I had on the Leon. My wife's V50 (on Avon tyres) coped fine in the same conditions without any drama - and with me driving!

        Thanks.

Oh I see, ah well, different car at that time then, or I'll get the Potenzas off - I agree with you - of course the car makes a different, my 4x4 doesnt notice the snow, my former Leon FR was ok but you had to be careful....but I've also got to business irrespective of weather so not going to be snowed in !

        Regards,
        Clive.

Perhaps it's a good job i'm keeping my TT, just in case the DS dislikes the snow and ice. By the way i was running Toyo Proxes on the TT last winter and had no probs but maybe that was down to the quattro.

PS : yes Clive i have the info, and have emailed you in return. Many thanks

I survived the snow with no problems travelling around Macclesfield (with it's hills).
I had winter tyres and they made a significant difference. They were Bridgestone Blizzaks on the rear and Pirelli Snowstorms on the front.
Bought all four as new and fitted for £100. Best money I ever spent on tyres!

Damn thats cheap... Wintertyres cost like a 300-400£ in Finland and those are mandatory during the winter.

Where did you manage to get those tyres at that price, sounds like a plan to me

                      Hi all,

My 110 HDI DSport seemed to cope ok with just the standard Potenzas in & around the Midlands, pulling away in 2nd or 3rd with little or no throttle seemed to get me going in most cases & left foot braking first to get some front end bite before coming off the throttle to stop.

Its not so much our cars.. its others driving like loons and cant brake and Bump!!.. so I bus and train it.. in bad weather! Not damaging my baby!

LAst yr in my C2 VTS it was utter crap trying to go anywhere even with a little dusting of snow.. then someone mentioned I should of turned off the ESP button.. and when I done that I was able to drive it perfectly.!!

So I will remember that this time.. as we have one on this car dont we..

Have you noticed that people with winter tires seem to better in the snow than people on summer tires.

I was thinking about getting some winter tyres and putting them on secondhand wheels. if I went to a breakers, apart from the DS3 and C3 what wheels would be a straight fit?

                              Lol!! Best laugh this morning!

Yes I disagree as we had over 6 inches of snow and our little DSport didn't miss a beat once, never lost traction or skidded. Will admit that I am well used to snow driving having lived right up in the north for the last 25 years and yes it is all down to technique.

If your not as *ahem* 'skilled' as me I would strongly suggest buying a set of Snow Socks, a friend of mine has these and they do really work which will save you have to mess about changing tyres.
