Removing number plates - advice required

I'm just about to get a set of personal plates.

What's the best way to remove the old ones without shattering them or scratching the car.

I'm guessing that they've probably used double-sided sticky pads but they seem to be all over and right up to the edges.

Any advice on how to remove them - dental floss, fishing line, wooden spatula? What liquid should I use to remove the residue?

Pull The Plates By Hand...

Boiled Kettle Water To Get The Sticky Stuff Off...

Zack! Told you off before about boiling water!!

Best thing to use is a hair dyer and warm the plates in order to soften the glue of the sticking pads, don't be frighted to give the plates a good tug, most are shatter proof anyway and you can give them a good bend, trust me I've removed plenty in my time!

Is this standard for all Citroen dealers/DS3's, or do they still use screws to secure them?

We use screws to fix the numbers plates to the car - as required by Citroen New Vehicle Preparation Standards.

There's been a lot reported lately about plates being stolen and used in forecourt drive offs and to avoid speeding tickets etc. so I've just invested in a set of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Richbrook-A...9451413&sr=8-2.

I know that any serious thief can still get them off, but it is a deterant.

just ad a look @ mine the nice guys from town centre citroen av screwed both plates on. looks like i'll get some of them too. but the the hardend criminal would just av a set made up to bung on a motor. and for £4:35+ free p+p its a bargian

Looked today at the front plates (rears are stuck on) and noticed these fixings are of an unusual design, how do I remove them when the time comes.

Anybody? Bigfeet advice please?

That looks like it might be a screw with a protective coating over the top, try scraping at it a bit and see if it reveals the actual screw head underneath.
I could be wrong though :P The ones on my car are big fat phillips head bolts in matching numberplate colour but they look like they had a covering over them before they were tightened.

That looks like a tamper proof screw, can only be done up with a screwdriver not undone. You're going to have to use mole grips or something similar to grip the whole head to undo them. Obviously this will damage the heads, so you'll need some new number plate screws when you swap the plates over.

I have just looked again and thanks Arlow, you are correct in saying it is a tamper proof screw as a large flat head screwdriver would fit but only to tighten.

I have the new plates with the fixing kit already.
