  • Recall

Had a call yesterday from Evans Halshaw Doncaster to say that there was a recall on my car. They needed to have a look at it to see if the battery lead needed changing and it would only take ten minutes to decide if it was one that had to be changed. Apparently it's a potential fire hazard. I said I'd bring it straight away as I'm going on holiday at the weekend.

So off I go and after waiting for someone to bother to get up from the back room and man the reception I handed over the keys. After 40 minutes of waiting, staring up at the huge holes in the ceiling that have been there since the snow last year, the receptionist appears and says "it needs doing, we've got the part in stock and he's on with it now". No "is that OK" or "sorry about the fact that it's already half an hour longer than I told you".

Another 40 minutes pass and she finally reappears with the keys - "All done, but there's a problem - as you have a non-genuine radio we couldn't reset the clock or the radio so you've got a flashing display and no stations programmed"

I just left before I Gave her an earful. It might not be a citroen radio but it's a genuine alpine. and if they bothered to ask or look it up, it can be reset using the stalks. They just don't give a shit about the customer. I'm not even convinced that the vehicle needed a recall, probably just a scam to wring money out of Citroen!

Did you ask for the recall details?

You can look them up on VOSA - various here. You can see the VIN's affected here too.

If you're not happy, then could you not use a different dealer?

I'll get my ear bent again but don't you think you may have come across a bit harsh?

Sometimes jobs to overrun and the techs have to finish the first job first before starting the next, the lady did tell that he has started the job for you to keep you informed and up to date. As regards to the radio again they informed you that because they changed the part you will need to reset the radio, seems to me that they didn't want to mess with it in case they did something wrong (which is what our techs would do).

Granted I can't fully comment as I was not there but just saying my peace.

Not really the dealers fault you put an after market h/u in is it?

Also, we get paid hardly anytime for recall work, so i personally wouldnt be arsed messing about working out how to reset a non gen radio!

Even simple sounding jobs are often not so simple. Something usually turns out to not want to come apart or go together right and it takes longer to do of coarse you only get paid what the Manufacturer says is how long it should take. Not normally a money making situation.

The key point is that I was invited in for 10 minutes to check whether my vehicle was one of those affected. If it was going to take longer then I'd have booked it in. I also expect them to ask me if I'm OK to wait longer not start work on the vehicle without my permission. I accept that they wouldn't necessarily know what to do with the radio but it would have been nice to be told "sorry but when we disconnect the battery you're going to lose all your radio and display info".

Maybe I'm just used to 10 years of driving a Lexus and should lower my expectations in terms of service.

I took mine in and took 20 minutes...

no radio stations or time cause i changed my radio xD

but I didn't honestly expect them to research in to it to set my clock.. as for all they know I didn't buy an adapter that will let my stalk control everything.

Well Its Aftermarket So Why Would You Expect Them To Have A Go ? They Wouldn't Know How To Operate It And Could Risk Messing It Up...

                Well That's A Rediculous Statement...

If They Didn't Care About The Customer They Wouldn't have Phoned You And Let You Know About The Recall - Most Dealerships Wait For The Customer To Come Knocking After Getting A Letter In The Post !

And You Didn't Think It Needed A Recall ? Do Some Research Before You Write Stupid Things - There's Been Loads Of People On Here Who Have Had This Same Recall...

                Pointless Thread...

Also not a scam... There's a thread on here where someones car cut out completely because of it and couldn't even put on their hassard lights!

Seeing you live in Goole perhaps you could think of using Broach Hill next time. Great family run garage in Hutton Cranswick. I have been going there for years and they have never let me down.

ha ha i cant believe what some people say on here. firstly faxo 'we get paid hardly anytime for recall work, so i personally wouldnt be arsed messing about working out how to reset a non gen radio!' this is a ridiculous statement. you send your car in for a manufactures recall you should recieve your car back in exactly the same condition as it went in. find out how to change it on the internet or politely tell the customer you didnt want to mess with it.
zack its not a pointless thread telephone man is right if your told it will take 10 mins then it should take 10 mins i had the exact same issue, i had a meeting with my mortgage advisor when my car had the recall and it took them 30 mins before they even pulled the car in the workshop. poor service. and late for meeting.
and yes telephone man you should drop your expectations from a lexus i worked for lexus for 6 months and their level of service is excellent, as i have said in several threads citroen service is poor, obviously this is a personal opinion although i agree with highdigi broach hill is excellent i use them now even though evans halshaw is literally 2 mins away (not for the recall though). paul jack learn to spell. think everyone is being abit overly harsh to telephone man.

Nick, learn to use capital letters at the beginning of sentences and after certain punctuation. Use an apostrophe in "it's". Put a comma after conjuctions/connectives and tonnes of other various mistakes, before commenting on my spelling. Stick to the post! Thank you and goodnight!
