  • Daft question! Do they take the wheels off in the first service?

have just had my first service and noticed when i got it back that the locking wheel nut was still in the unopened bag and had not been touched! Do they not take the wheels off to have a look at the brakes etc? Or do they do it from behind without taking them off?Am i asking a stupid question?
    cheers paul
OOps! just realised this should be in the technical section i suppose? Can someone move it?

the locking nut on our motor was loose or not in a bag as the dealer said they ad to remove it to check the torque tension on the wheel nuts to make sure they are correct as they had some cars that had loose locking nuts on. might be worth ya while to go and check yours yaself

I believe that dealer service bays have a complete set of the few combinations that are used............but having said that they always seem to ask where mine is!

As to whether they take the wheels off for a first service is anybody's guess since they're presumably only checking for brake pad wear

To be fair they seemed a really nice dealership, and washed and hoovered the car afterwards. Its just seems strange not to have used it, I haven't come across it before where they haven't used my locking wheel nut on every type of service. Strange I thought? Biggee?

They don't, to the best of my knowledge, take the wheels off at the first, or any scheduled, service. Brake pad wear can easily be checked without removing the wheels.

A word of warning on wheels: make sure that, early in the car's life you take the wheels off & grease the locating spigots - both my fronts were seized on at 12,000 miles!
