  • quick question

I am seriously considering trading in my DS3 for a VW Scirocco GTi or R.

I have been offered 14k for my car and am going to test drive my potential new car this weekend.

Can anyone tell me anything negative about this decision? I've read the VW Rocco forums and there don't appear to be any of the "my engine blew up" or "thp is crap", "report this car to Watchdog" etc threads so I think it's a safe bet but was just wondering if anyone on here could pass on any info they've heard that is reliable?

My mate works as a Tech for VW and he does laugh at the fact that if a VW goes wrong it normally arrives on the back of a trailer!

Why you thinking of the change?

I tried a GTi (the 200 hp jobbie) before I bought the DS3.

Really liked it, but it was £££ more than the THP, and the lower-powered versions didn't do it for me.

£ for £, a Leon Cupra is much better value than a Scirocco, and doesn't have the "somebody-very-heavy-sat-on-my-Golf" looks.

I'd have to go for the R just so it stands out from the billions of TDIs out there.

Does the GTI use a 2.0T?

If so, im an Audi tech (same engine), and these drink oil

In fact, no word of a lie, ive got one in bits atm, and so have 2 other guys for new rings. I talking full engine rebuild. In 10 years of being a techy, ive never had to do rings until i started at Audi 6 months ago, and now im a dab hand at them ive done so many!

The 2.0T TFSI is a terrible engine!!

I have the VW 2.0 TSFI in my passat and absolutely love that engine 35k miles only add a half a liter between oil changes. (change oil once a year) Lots of power good milage on the motorway but not so good around town and highly tunable with tons of aftermarket support.

I had a Leon FR with the 170 TDI engine and loved it (well just three Leons over a few years!)......

The only negative - depreciation (on your DS3 that is!, well any car come to that!) - if you want to change go for it my friend.

Looked at the scirocco and they are so bloody expensive, a specced up tdi gt170 is 30k, cracking car but too expensive for my liking

Sugest you look at the date of that post. 2008 , Again fixed with the TFSI or TSI engine that replaced the FSI engine
