  • Rattle from tailgate

    Hi all,

    I received my ds3 about a month ago now and love it but I've got a minor irritation in the tailgate (oooo er!)

    When I'm traveling around 30 - 50mph, there is quite a loud, quick rattle / ticking from the boot area. I've tried taking everything out, messing with the seat belts and all the trim seems fine but it's still there. I've even had it back to Citroen who said they fixed it by tightening the tailgate lock but as soon as I drove out the rattle returned - they had obviously not driven it and just had it on a rolling road.

    I've looked in the rattle thread but can't see this one listed anywhere. Any ideas?

    Best thing to do is if you can is drive somewhere with the tailgate open, this will let you know if it is the lock thats at fault. If it's not that then the only other things I can think of that you can check are;

    The tailgate struts are not lose
    Trim screws holding the trim on tailgate
    Rubber bungs that stop the parcel shelf bouncing on the top of the tailgate trim
    Check the rear wiper is seated firmly as well

    Hope you find the cause quickly!

      Thanks for your reply.

      Hmmmm, it could be the wiper. I've not looked at that and it could possibly sound like tapping on glass. It's weird that I cant hear the vibration at slow speeds so maybe its the air over the wiper when I reach 30mph. It's not the parcel shelf as I still had the rattle when the shelf was removed and the seats were down (xmas tree!).

        The thing with the parcel shelf is that on the tailgate there are two rubber bungs with the shelf rests on when the tailgate is shut, if one or none of them are there you will get a horrible rattle.

          But if the shelf was removed and the rattle was the same then it can't be the shelf can it?

              Check the plastic trim bit that runs inside up to the top of the window - with boot open, mine isn't flush or tight to the window (not that I think its supposed to be) but thinking this might be the cause of my 'new rattle'

              But going to pop something in on each side (thin sponge or something) to see if this has any impact.
              My DS3R3... nearly....

                  Turns out that you were right with this one. It's the trim on the top of the window rattling as it's too tight. Had it back to Citroen before Xmas and thought they had fixed it but the rattle has returned so I'm taking it back this week.

                  I think they just packed it with foam to try and raise the trim off the window. It's a little thing but very annoying ( a bit like the wife)
