  • Pfft...Bellone Corrosion

Noticed some spots of corrosion around the centre caps on all 4 bellone's the other day so decided to call in at the dealers this morning. Had a shufty and took piccies but said it's not covered under warranty and Craptroën have already turned down one claim they have submitted for the corrosion issue. Doesn't sound too promising for me pretty poor seeing as it's less than 4 months old and has covered less than 2000 miles.

Aye seen that thread zackeroo, he agreed that it should be sorted given the age and mileage but it will all depend on Craptroën. I was going to complain to Craptroën uk but maybe i should wait for the decision first before complaining lol.

How bad is the corrosion, this will have a bearing on your claim.

We waited until the corrosion was worst before speaking to Citroen UK about it to make sure that we would get replacements.

Was told last month that wheels are covered by 12 month warranty only. Seen lots on here re Bellone alloys corroding around the centre caps, wd guess either laquer is too thin on the sharp contour or possibly the fingers that hold the plastic centre caps on 'cut' through the laquer when fitted and that causes the corrosion.
Are citroen just blindly carrying on with the same wheel finish?
Thought I read on here where design had been changed slightly to prevent it happening but studlys car is only 4 months old!
I wd guess no ones had any corrosion problem with solver painted Bellones?
Think if it happens to mine I will have the machined alloy area that surrounds the centre cap painted black to match the wheels and the whole wheel re-laquered.

Tbh i could have waited for it to get worse as it's only a few spots on each wheel, but seeing as the roads are starting to get gritted i decided to get it on record that the wheels have got the usual corrosion. I still need to complain about that intermittent engine fault that occurs from a cold start and the relatively poor mpg for the supposedly more economical e-hdi.

That's part of my cunning plan too! I'll just remove the corrosion and paint the 'silver' bit - no re lacquer

The other parts of my plan are:

coat that area liberally with ACF-50, and put the Bellones in the cellar for winter!

I took all mine off in October and sealed them using Poorboys, so far no corrosion for me

All I did was be polite and showed the threads at the time. the service bloke was unconvinced, he said that he would ring Citroen and let me know. Rang me across the showroom ten minutes later asking how many I wanted and when could they do it. Job sorted.

There is a known issue with the E-HDi engine that Citroen have a fix for, we had one which was beached for about 3 weeks. Go and have a chat with your service manager about it.

I Have been experiencing low milage since I bought my E-HDI 90 DS3, 8000 miles ago. (54mpg, nearly all extra urban)
I've taken it to the dealer, but it checked out ok.
I mentioned this fault in your post but they had never heard of it and said Citroen didn't know of it either.
Could you tell me what it is please? I know something is not right as I'm driving a 110 Dsport at the moment on loan and its doing better mpg. Please help! H

Hmmm...we have seen fault regarding the cold start rather than MPG.

We had a DS3 E-HDi that threw up engine management lights on cold starts which we traced to possible plug issues. Citroen DO know about it has our DP had a right barny with Citroen over the issue as our customer decided that she no longer trusted the car. Citroen told us that they knew of an issue with the E-HDi but a fix wasn't ready and was being worked on, only last week did we get something come through which was too late for us as the customer rejected the car. I think they were more upset by Citroen then the car it's self as Citroen told them to just drive the car and ignore the light as they were not getting a coursty car from them. We supplied one ourselves and now because of Citroen's lack of focus we have a DS3 E-HDi in stock which cost us nearly the same as a new one.

Thx for the info biggie...i kinda gave up pestering the dealer as after the last time of leaving it with them for a week it behaved:rolleyes: , and the previous 4 engine fault warnings weren't logged. The thing is i was getting well over 60 mpg before the first engine fault and a subsequent part replaced (something to do with pre-heat) and it hasn't been the same since. The mpg is still reasonable for a diesel granted but it's just annoying to know there is still something not right and i cannie fault the dealer as they have been very co-operative.
On a plus note i got a call today to let me know my wheels are to be replaced, just need to be ordered so will be early january.
