Have to agree, I don't like the A1 (boring) but just because it's at the smaller end of Audi's range doesn't make it a poor mans Audi after all the DS3 is at the small end of the DS range. Not everyone needs or want's a big car.

With regards to 'could have a much better car for £21k', everyone on this site could have a much better car for the money they paid for their DS3, but we wanted something new! Im sure you could pick up an old Roller for £10k, which at one point was the best car money could buy probably, but today its just a money pit! RS4s are terrible cars to drive, and trust me they are money pits, try £10k for an engine at 43000 because of carbon build up causing a valve to stick!

And yes, i am fortunate enough to change cars quite often, but thats because i seek out the best deals, get the best discount, lose the least amount of money possible, and mainly i work damn hard, so why not?!

Either way, for that money I'd have personally gone for a slightly older A3. I was going to get one before I got the DS but with extras added they cost a relative fortune!

If I was to pick something else other than the DS3 then I would have a look at the Alfa, the German do screw they cars well, but for me it's the way a car makes you feel that more important.
