  • New DS3 owner!

    Hello everyone!!

This is my first post, I hope it’s in the right place!

I bought my first car, a lovely little 1.6ltr DS3, on the weekend. I’m completely besotted by it as I’ve wanted one for a while. However, I passed my test not long ago so my insurance quotes are crazy, can anyone recommend any insurance companys? I am 22, employed & keeping the car in a locked garage. I can’t seem to find anyone (half decent!) who’ll give me a quote that isn’t near the 3K mark at the moment. Does anyone have any tips on how I can get this down, or know of any insurance companys for new drivers? I’ve tried comparison sites, just wanted to shop about & get an idea of what I’m essentially going to end up paying.

    Thankyou,
    Harley

The club has a couple of partnered insurers who will give you some discount for mentioning the club: Adrian Flux and Chris Knott. Both specialise in modified cars but should be able to tailor a quote easily for an unmodified car. They are not on comparison websites so you have to phone them up and discuss it.

Contacting the mainstream insurers by phone should help too, as the comparison sites use some quite weird algorithms to provide those automatic quotes. Best of luck finding a cheaper one! Even near the 1000-1500 mark would be better right now!

Brilliant, thankyou for your reply! Even £2000 would be okay right now. Struggling to get quotes at some places, probably because of my age. It’s more of a nightmare than I thought it would be.

Hi, congratulations on passing your test and owning a DS3 as your first car, my first was a pile of.........! I’m in the driver training industry and the best way to reduce your premium is telematics ( black box) most insurers recognise them, you basically pay as you drive ! Slowly with gentle acceleration and braking and not driving late at night keeps it cheap (er). TBH the best thing to do is get some training through RoSPA, the training is free and the test Is about £70. Once you’ve passed (hopefully gold standard) you pay £25 annually and get retested every 3 years! Insurance companies love advanced drivers. I pay £333 per year through Citroën insurance, cheap as I’m over 52 now but any damage is repaired at a Citroën dealership also. Good luck

            Welcome to the club

            Check this out: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/car-insurance/

Worked for me. Also sometimes worth putting a parent or partner on the insurance as secondary named driver.
