  • Help buying a DS3 - Common faults etc

Hello all, I知 new around here!

I think I maybe joining the DS3 club soon, I知 going to be looking over a 2012 model in the next few days.

Is there anything I should look out for specifically or be aware of?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Which engine are you going for specifically? That will let us give you a lot more information.

Some general pointers to check are rust/bubbling under the wing mirrors, corrosion on the alloys, and snapped springs - usually they go right at the bottom so the car doesn't sag on one corner, you need to take a closer look.

The majority of checks/advice depend on the engine you have.

Sorry for being very vague, it痴 a Petrol 1.6 DStyle plus hatchback 2012 model.

I have checked the previous MOT's and it looks very clean. It hasn't done more than 30k miles though.

Thank you for the advice, I wouldn't have known those pointers.

Ok that engine is pretty fine, only things to know is it's normal for it to consume a lot of oil. Expect to top up every few thousand miles. It does use a timing chain rather than a belt, in which the tensioners have been known to fail and give a death rattle, but this is far more likely to happen on the THP engine rather than the VTi engine.

Another thing I have remembered is the temperature sensor can be faulty, although some cars can have it replaced by a recall campaign if it goes - just check in with the dealer if it happens. If it's not on the recall list, get it fixed at an independent for a 」300 job rather than a 」450+ job at main dealer prices. The reason it's so expensive is they have to change the housing and wiring too.

possibly get a warranty as piece of mind

I went for gold warrantywise and it came back 」415
The dealer I got the car for said he could get for 」185....

                Just had to be done
