Petrol or Diesel?

So, have a 1.6 eHdi airdream 110 with 85000 miles on the clock and love it, when doing big mileage. Now working much closer to home, 1.4 miles away and will be doing this trip everyday, for the next 19 years.
My experience is diesels don't like small trips, especially with a dpf to clog.
What're the petrols like on small repetitive journeys? Kinda looking at the fast engines, 2015 ish. Low miles.

I've done a 3mile ring-road commute in my petrol 1.6 VTi for the last 3 years and had no problems really. Trip computer for the last 6k miles says I'm on 41.5mpg.

Had to upgrade to the THP in the end though. Just paid £10k for a 65plate with 16k on the clock, and loving it so far.

I did big miles and now do small miles in my eHDi 115 and as long as I give it a good razz on the motorway once a week, the dpf has been fine and still getting a tank to last me nearly a month!!
