  • NEW DS3 OWNER - 1.5L overfilled oil by seller!

    Hi all,
Just bought myself a 13 plate E-hdi 115 Dsport. From a used car dealer in Bromsgrove.
I viewed the car and saw it had nasty black oil in it upto the max mark. When I haggled about the price he bumped me up £50 at the end so he could service it, just oil and filter and resecure loose side skirt before I coud have it.
I have since left the car with him for 4 days so he could do the work and went and paid for the car and collected it yesterday.
Got the car 25miles home then checked the oil .... 2 inches over the max mark on the dipstick I kid you not! Fairly disappointed as I know its rather bad to overfill a diesel this much.
So I've drain it down, and videoed it. 1.55Litres removed to get it down to max. The undertray had not been removed by the seller as the bolts were rusted solid to the clips. its possible they pulled the back of the tray down to get access as two clips at the back sides were ripped through but I dont think they changed the oil.
The car also has a new m.o.t with no advisories yet one of the backbox exhaust mounts is sheared clean off the pipe and one tyre has 1mm left before the markers. should be an advisory no?
So what do you guys think I should do? Ask the seller to refund me enough money to buy new oil and filter? or more as I think I should probably take the intercooler and pipework off for a clean as there is oil on top of the intercooler in the engine bay. I can slate them through youtube and cardealerreviews.co.uk but that doesnt help really. Cant trust its had new filter and oil now can I

Sorry for your bad experience with a dealer.

This situation stinks of shocking customer service and sadly one only looking to make a quick buck.

I'm not sure I would go back to them if I was you (unless you had too) as it sounds like they've already shafted you. To me it sounds like they've topped up the oil and that's it. Having said that I do understand if you question wanted to request refund, no harm in a bit of forceful asking. My worry would be is if they was to do anymore work then they'd bodge that too.

It looks like the government will now allow you to check where exactly the MOT was done. This is available https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ - Enter the latest V5C number - the 11 digits from the vehicle logbook. I would personally check this to see whether they 'done' the MOT themselves.

If you have a local trusted garage you could always take the car there for a second opinion, I'm sure they wouldn't mind advising you.

Oil: you can see if its dirty, or clear on the dipstick. Filter: usually clean as a whistle if its new- check the receipt and see the make etc etc

Just had my MOT on a 110, and one of the mounts has sheared too, but its not supportive so wasn't a fail. They didn't put down as advisory, just told me about it
so long as tyres are over 1.6mm they aren't a fail, and would have expected the MOT tester would have advised the dealer

But agreed, not a nice experience by the sounds.
Not into slagging myself, just hop the car goes OK from now on.

      Did you get a warranty?

I can do all the mechanics myself Ohmygoditsme so no need to ever return to the 'dealer', who is not a proper gargage just some guy with 50 motors or so.
Just going to change the oil and filter to be on the safe side, Got some of the proper Total Quartz Ineo 5w30 and a genuine oil filter 1109AY plus a k&n panel filter to put on. Going to throw a magnetic sump plug on there just because.

Ok Chris_Blue fair play on the mount not being a fail, just if the rear most mount fails aswell the whole exhaust system will drag on the ground. I've got a repair kit for it here to fit which clamps around the pipe by the looks of it. The tyre with the least tread looks old as the sidewalls are starting to perish so I'll just replace it.
Supposed to have a 3month warranty but no papework LOL.

The saga of the new DS3 continues.... leaky (failed) water pump, which is driven by the frickin timing belt. seller clearly knew about it as when I viewed it clear water was in the header tank then when I picked it up it was radweld red colour lol! has radweld stains all flowing down the back of the engine block too. So I've fitted a new timing belt kit with the water pump and tensioners etc. threw a new Aux belt on too but bit concerned that one of the aux belt tensioners isnt in the best state as it vibrates up and down a fair bit.bit gutted that I had to do the work on it but at least the timing belt has been done now and dont need to worry for 5 years or so.
