  • temperature sensor fault

hi guys, ive had the stop warning on and temperature needle goes to the top.ive had the car in the garage and its a temperature sensor fault.(which is very common apparently)

my question is.. can I just buy the sensor or do I need to buy the housing with the sensor.ive read somewhere I need to buy the whole housing..its a citreon ds3 dsyle plus petrol 1.6 vti

    thanks very much in advance

Mine was a THP 2013 and it went in for same issue. They replaced the whole lot, thermostat and housing etc.
i think for different models things moved on, but earlier models it was change the whole lot

thanks very much for the reply.mines also a 2013.im guessing the sensor on these models must be molded into the housing hense why you need to buy the lot.

still don't understand how you can buy them without the housing.

sorry to go on about this temperature sensor but this may help other people in the future.this picture shows my new housing with temp sensor thermosate etc etc.
it looks like I could of just ordered the sensor as it just looks like it clips off.its just a metal clip holding it in place.i could be wrong thou.

Good info. I suppose we will never know until someone tries. Now mine is out of warranty iI
will try this if the situation arises.

Speak to Jamie @sp tuning, I had the same issue and changed just the temp sensor in the old housing...made little to no difference.
he told me the thermostat is prone to sticking on earlier models so changed the housing for latest updated one and problem solved

cheers martin..ive replaced the housing and wiring loom..my mechanic still had to saw off a bit of pipe on the new housing as the original hose wouldn't fit over it.hopefully its all sorted now.

actually a quick question..if the temp sensor goes bad again could we just replace the actual sensor or would the whole housing need replacing.cheers again guys

here we go again.same warning sign.STOP ENGINE ETC ETC.this new housing has only been on 2 month..im wondering if they put a cheap temperature sensor on the new housing..im going to replace the temperature sensor as you can on the new housing..if the warning comes on again, its going to citreon dealer to get my eyes took out.
