  • Best tyres for winter for THP155 DS3?

Compelled to write this as a warning to others.
Have you ever wondered whether michelin pilot sport 4s can be left on over winter in an extensively modded 215BHP FWD car?
The answer it turns out is yes, if you don't mind being dead.
Literally wheelspin at 10mph on the smallest patches of frost!
These tyres are amazing in the summer - seriously recommend them. But do not try them during Winter.

I did some research and reckon Dunlop WinterSport 4Ds might be a good option?

Anyone got any intel on good winter tyres for their THPs?

    Dan

I use Michelin Alpin and they are pretty good on ice and snow. I would suggest you consider getting a set of steel rims for your winter tyres and leaving your summer tyres on the alloys. The benefit is that you save on the cost of the tyre fitting bay charging you to keep swapping the tyres over twice a year. With steel rims you can go for a slightly narrower profile which will also give better grip in snow. In my view using winter tyres is a no brainer.

I know it's off topic and sorry I can't help but I'd love to see what your car looks like....

Good thoughts on the alpins, I like michelin generally so will check those out. Do you find that you still push it fairly hard (assuming its not actually icy)?

Ha ha! More than happy to post pictures of the car. I've tried to keep it looking fairly 'stock' externally - i.e. i've not slammed it, I've not got new alloys, no body kit etc. Under the bonnet there isn't that much stock left though!

I didn't need to change to change my tyres, but as soon as Michelin introduced my tyre size in the Cross Climate range, I bought four. The manager of Kwikfit advised me that I would notice that the car would run more quietly and the "ride" would be more comfotable. He was right. My DSport is transformed. Glad to see the back of Bridgesone Potenza. Gripless in winter. Michelin invented the rangeadial-ply tyre and I had Michelin X tyres on my Jaguar 2.4 , in 1967. I have been a Michelin fan ever since.

Hi Any recommendations for front tyres for my DS3 sport, have always used Michelin Pilot Sport but not too happy with the wear of my current ones, would have expected to get a few more miles out of them, especially after how well the first set did. I don't find them too grippy in snow/slush but for the amount of snow we get in the winter it isn't worth swapping to winter tyres, I just don't use it for a day or two.
