  • New car, new noises?

    Hey, new to the forum!

Had a couple of questions about some noises I'm hearing from my DS3, please forgive me if they have been covered already, I have done some searching but couldn't really find anything!

I have two separate noises that aren't really of the good kind coming from my car at the moment.

    1) When moving off from stationary there seems to be a grinding noise, not unlike the noise when you grind a gear, seems to be coming from the front, maybe drivers side. It doesn't happen all the time, mainly when going up a hill or moving off vigorously.

    2) When I was breaking to pull into my road and turn right I head a rattling noise from what seems like the drivers side (o/s) wheel area, sounded like thin rattling metal. Again not all the time just occasionally.

I've only had the car a week and haven't had the chance to get it up on some jacks and have a poke around, some helpful insights would be greatly appreciated though.

    Thanks in advance

    Welcome to the Club

    1) Brakes? They can make a clunk and grinding noise which stops when they've been used for a bit. Its pads sticking, and rusty/surface brake disc dirt

    2) could be brake pads worn, you can see the pads behind the caliper, next to the disc. Metallic parts scratch and make a noise when they are worn down

Advice_ Take it into Kwikfit for a free inspection, but don't pay anything after they've quoted you a few quid for the work. Get other quotes

Without a video upload or seeing it for myself its all guesswork

Could be bearings, shocks, suspension parts, etc etc

Chris_Blue thanks for the reply dude,

Yeah I did notice there was a sizeable lip on the front discs, it has just had an MOT done as part of the sale to me though.

I will check them out today hopefully if the snow holds off!

I will see if I can get a video today though.

The thin rattling noise if it's a THP will be the turbo Waste gate on overun. We have it. Had s brand new turbo fitted under warranty and still the same.

I have just fitted a small sandwich adapter because I'm a child and like my car to make silly noises, would it still make that noise?

I took a video I will see if I can upload it on here now

Just to provide some closure on the matter the ratting turned out to be a broken air con compressor! Getting it changed under the RAC warranty

Great you've got it on the way to being sorted

Diagnosing noises on a club forum never easy. LOL.
