  • EAT6 gearbox problem

    Hi,

I have a DS3 darklight, four years old 22000 miles. The problem I have is when the car changed from 4 to 3 it is very jerky. If I am going up a hill and the car changes down it is worse. It is only 4 to third that is the problem. Any ideas other than take it in to the dealer?

Assuming its a manual box, they've never been that good
Clunky and jerky is normal, and remeber watching Top Gear trial one in 2009 when they first come out, saying gearbox wasnt great

Gearbox oil change may help with good quality maybe thicker stuff

Sounds like could be synchromesh could be worn

I thought EAT gearboxes were true automatics with torque converter etc. It's the EGS gearboxes which are automated manual boxes and I believe are not as smooth as an EAT. I think a trip to the dealer is required. Oil changes on autos isn't a service requirement. Might be worth checking the levels though

I thought I would give an update on the gearbox issue.

I took the car to the Citroen dealer and they looked a t it, checked all the connections and reprogrammed the box. They asked me if I would mind there mechanic using the car to test it. There report was that there was nothing wrong with the gearbox after the re-programming.

so the gearbox is a bit smoother now but not perfect. I have access to an old Nisan Micra auto and my wife's i10 auto, both of which are smooth compared to the Citroen. If the dealer says the car is OK then it must be that the Citroen gearbox is OK. But i will see if can live with it.
