  • Looking to buy DS3

Hi folks. I’m looking to buy a DS3 petrol version, as car is for my wife will need to be reliable, however I have heard of some horror stories regarding these engines, oil problems and engines being knackered. Is there any advice on which one to avoid etc. Thanks

Its the THPs that get the bad write ups, but again, they should be OK if looked after. Usually timing chain related or requires decoking every 20k miles due to GDI engine

    What model u thinking?

If its the 150 I bit of research on the specific car will be needed. also depends if its a dealer without warranty or not (Usually 3 months)

Try hear the car from cold start, listen toi LHS of engine bay when looking from font of car- if there is a lot of ticking and clicking it could be s stretched chain or tensioner on way out

When accelerating in third gear up a small incline (Under load) look out for any stutters or hesitation. Sign that inlet valves could be coked up, maybe High pressure fuel pump

Lots other things you could look at, but dont want to bore. They are the major things

Dont know much bout 120 distyle but its not a THP so shouldn't give you bother

Cheers Chris. The THP is a private sale with previous MOT advisories for oil leaks, when I asked seller they said it had been sorted with a new turbo oil pipe fitted. Think I’ll give that car a swerve. Thanks wayne

no worries Wayne- sometime the head gasket and rocker cover gaskets are leaky too

Some leaks are difficult because of the high pressure system

There are stackloads of DS3s around, get one that has no bad history I would say
