With only 10k a year the running costs aren't likely to be a big deal either way. I know you will pay a little less rego and use less diesel than petrol but with only 10k a year how much actual money is that? 10,000km difference between a THP150 and HDi110 wont be more than 500 pounds a year max. Ok a few beers maybe a week.
Assume you want a 6 speed manual which is a good choice then it's THP150 turbo petrol or HDi110 turbo diesel engines to choose between. Both offer plenty of performance for a road car. In the standard performance metrics the THP150 killls the HDi110 soundly qrt mile 15.5@91mph vs 16.9@82mph (60 yards behind!), 0-60 7.3 vs 9.8sec, top speed 133 vs 118mph.
In real terms its much closer 50-70mph in 6th gear 9.8 vs 9.7 secs! 40-60mph in 4th 6.9 vs 6.2 sec. Both can be tuned for more performance too of course. To drive the diesel feels great just with a shorter power range so you have to shift up earlier where the petrol revs further in each gear. Some people will find the petrol more satisfying in the way it revs and has a wider powerband. Oh and reversing sensors auto wipers and armrest isn't really going to change your driving life much. look for the better wheels and tyres and sports suspension thats worth having.

The e-HDI...they all have the new engine now apart from unsold stock, will wear a lot less and be worth a lot more in two or three years time. Also ALL the e-HDI's now come into the no tax bracket and they are also exempt from the London congestion charge....if that is something which might apply to you. Yes you might lose a second here and there in terms of acceleration but unless your racing against someone...and I sincerely hope you are not even considering that on the public roads, then it really doesn't matter. Of course it's personal choice but I would go for the e-HDI.
Thanks for the congestion charge info. I had no idea that low emissions are treating us this well.

Make the most of it as the government is considering changes in time for 2016, including the cutting of the threshold to 85g/km, see attached:

Well I run the 90 hp version and it is fine. Just wish i had the 6 speed gearbox on the 110 hp D sport.
IN 2007 I ran a peugoet 206 110 hdi sport which was great, I then px'd it for a 207 GT THP 150. I hardly noticed the difference in power, was disappointed and then rejected it due to it being in the garage more than my drive!
              HDI I say!

Just a side note, If Peugeot/Citreon/BMW have known about the THP problems since 2007, why has nothing been done?

Yes but by 2016 we'll have a new car anyway so that probably won't affect us. I have no doubt Citroen and others will already be working on lower emission engines, longer range electric cars etc. This is one of the reasons we decided we have had enough of buying used. I prefer the idea of being able to constantly update at little cost. Ok there is the initial cost but after that it's just a matter of trading the old for the new

Hey thanks for you input guys, I think I might go with the THP DSport, its quicker than the Hdi, I wont get MUCH more MPG the distance and way I drive, and also the free tax thing is kool but, the more speed the better
Thanks anyway. Now just gotta save for the deposit

Anyone know if its a good idea to buy a second hand one first? Like 61 plate or something?

                    Hi,
I just bought a 11 plate with less than 3k on the clock for a very good price compared to what is was new so it's worth considering , I nearly went for the Diesel but changed at the last minute and I have to say its a great drive and pretty quick for 150 bhp as well.

Okay thanks for letting me know, im looking to pay monthly on a finance so im sure my best bet would be to go to a dealer not citroen directly and maybe get a second hand THP on finance paying monthly.

Pretty sure you will pay a much higher interest rate going down that route. Also likely to be less warranty and going on past experience, Citroen's are great until just outside the warranty period!

                            ..

Ah okay thanks. Il go direct to citroen then see if they have any second hand ds3's if not il just go brand new, i just hate the fact that they lose thousands in the first year or so from purchase.

Exactly . mine is 10 months old with 3k on the clock in mint condition for 13K which i thought was a cracking price from a Citroen dealer when you think it would have been 17/18 k a few months ago.

Yes well this is why we are not interested in "buying" a car. Seems like a completely pointless exercise to me. Makes far more sense to rent and hand it back in a couple of years and then get the newest model without having to think about depreciation. With a new car you lose at least £500 as soon as you drive it off the forecourt and it's all down hill from there
