  • Hdi 1.6 - gear change question

I just picked my car up this morning and have a query about the gear changes - I've come from a 2.0 Mondeo which was relatively quick off the mark in 1st gear into 2nd. What's the nack with the ds3, I can't seem to get off the line quick, seems to be very sluggish until 2nd at which point it slaps me and just starts pulling like nobodies business!

Any tips would be appreciated! (not turned esp off but stop start is off)

Also absolutely in love with the car, so happy with it!! Lots of jealous looks from the local boy racers today at the local macdonalds spot lmao

The best I can do is keep the revs about 2000 - 3000 (cant remember exactly I do it on the feel than reading) and let the clutch slip a lot otherwise the traction control kicks in. It will knacker your clutch but if you wanna be quick it works. You could turn off the traction control but then the wheels will just spin up and that wont be quick either. Its just a case of trying and testing until you get that feeling of the clutch biting nice but not wheel spin or traction control interfering

turned the ESP off this morning on the way to work, and by god it shifts! Definitely keeping it switched on for the moment for some easy driving/breaking in time; can't believe how much torque there is compared with my old car, it's an absolute animal!

You might have a better time with your quick start if you learned to launch in 2nd rather than 1st, 1st gear is really aimed at just moving the car!

I'll give it a go later; I don't know if it's all in my head, but there's definitely a distinct difference between driving a diesel vs petrol - It's only my 3rd car so it's going to take some getting used to

            I find this too!!

It's just a case of getting used to it I think. I love this about the car though! It's like a little animal! :-)

I have only had this model since Monday, but I have found this. I get into 2nd almost straight away and find that I am at 30mph almost instantly it seems.

Today was the first day due to the weather I actually got some slight screech as a set off in 1st and straight into 2nd - and today was also the first day that I got out my car and nearly slapped a woman for squeezing through past my left side and nearly taking my wing mirror off in her shitty old peugeot 207 >_< If I hadn't moved them inwards they would have been dangling by the side of my 4 day old car!

So frustrating people have no considertion for other peoples cars whatsoever!
