New tyre question - again!

Howdoo,
Need my fronts replacing. Is it ok to change brands on the fronts only and leave the bridgestones on the back?
Will it make any difference to the handling or do i need the same tyres on each corner?
Also, i have used the search engine to see which ones are recommended, but just found it more confusing. Didn't want to spend more than £200 for both fitted.

As long as both the front tyres are the same, you should be fine. Never seemed to matter when I've run a different tyre on the front.

Its best to have the same tire all around but it is ok to have different tires on front and back. Just make sure you keep the same kind of tire on both sides of the front and back.

I third that. I make a habit of running a random assortment of the shittest (and cheapest) tryes available. Never had a problem personally, just don't try taking it round corners at extreme speeds haha.

The Bridgestones are pretty soft, so if replacing with something are, chances are it will be harder. This should just lead to additional understeer. I would avoid the random assortment though, it's when things go wrong that you tend to notice problems.

Well I have just put 2 205/40/17 Proxy TR1 on the front of mine with no probs ......................and they are shit loads cheaper

205/45/17 toyo are about £86 plus fitting
205/40/17toyo are about £60 plus fitting ...............................Camskill

Ok the correct tyre is the 45 but have used the different combination on other cars plus this with no probs

Even stiffer than the Potenzas? That's a surprise, cos they're so stiff they're almost like runflats.

They're the only (non-runflat) tyre I've ever known where I was able (unwittingly) to drive with an almost completely deflated rear tyre for upwards of a week and not be aware of it until I checked the pressures. Knackered the sidewall internally, but to look at it the tyre didn't appear to be deflated. Probably would have noticed if I'd taken a bend sharpish in the wet, but fortunately it was dry that week ...

Hi, where were those prices from? Was that at speed rating 88V? (which is same speed rating as originally fitted by Citroen).

I'd caution against the 40s - unless you've cleared / informed your insurer as if you have a significant accident they have a get out clause if the tyres and speed rating are not the same as recommended by the manufacturer. I'm not 100% sure what the rules are on this.

Umm must be what tyre you've come from as I think the DS3 is nice and smooth on the Potenzas, but my Leon FR was as hard as nails up the backside!

More down to the suspension set up than tyres, surely? I had a Leon Cupra that rattled my fillings irrespective of what tyres I put on it (although it was like a RR compared to the Ibiza Cupra, which was rock-hard).

The impressive thing about the DS3 is that it rides so well even with those stiff sidewalls.

Yes, on reflection I'm sure you're right Gar! The Leon FR was one hard ride for sure. Mine was a 58 Reg, I believe they've softened them up a bit, might have to get another just to check!
