I do use engine braking in certain situations. For example, a local stretch of road, about ¼ mile, downhill with a 30 limit; in 3rd the car will stay at a steady 30, so that's what I do - much better than annoying following drivers with constant flashes of brake lights.

As for cadence braking, it's pointless when your car's got ABS!

You can cadence brake with ABS- it's just rather a pointless thing and no idea who was teaching cadence braking in an advanced driving course- they teach it when you do a track course (for torque steering) and when I did it it was in the military. Ho hum.

Yep, I was bored so went for drive.

I hate being bored and I'm quite well known for doing what might seem daft things. Driving at odd times of the morning, disappearing for week without notice to do a wildlife park Tour or Theme Park tour...I get upto some odd things.

I'm not sure exactly how to answer the question.
In some cases yes i'll use engine braking, however it's more about being in the right gear at the right time so not having to use the brakes as much. So i might let the car slow itself while i'm approching a junction however I wouldn't downshift let the car slow then downshift again, etc.
I was taught to drive by my dad who was a police officer (and for a preiod trained the newbies) and I also completed the AIM advanced motorist course - there wasn't much difference in what i was taught between the two, and neither taught me to downshift to slow the vehicle, just to select the correct gear at the correct time, and naturally the brakes will be needed less.
