Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has any idea about citroen's extended warranty. How much it is and if it covers all the things covered in the first three years. Considering getting it for peace of mind!
Pat
I've said that I don't want to keep mine out of warranty (i.e. past Feb 2013) but I'd be tempted to run it until next summer if I could get a reasonably-priced extended warranty that would cover a reoccurrence of the THP problems.
The extended warranty behaves in the same fashion as the 3 year warranty. If you are interested then you should head over to the special Warranty website Citroen have set up - https://citroen.motor-admin.com/warr...icle-details-1

Thanks, Biggie. My quote from that website came back at £225. Pleasantly surprised - it's a great deal less than my missus was quoted for an extended warranty on her crapulous Volvo. Presumably it varies with mileage etc?
I'm seriously tempted to go with that, esp. as there's a monthly renewing policy at only £22.50 p.m. (10 instalments), so I could run the DS3 over the winter and replace it next spring/summer, rather than face the hassle of doing so in the next few months (there's a waiting list until at least March 2013 for its intended replacement, so that would work out nicely).
PS - just wondering whether that quote takes account of the fact that the car's still under warranty until 02/13? The website won't let you select the start-date. Hmmm.
PPS - just read the small print on the EW, and there are 2 exclusions that stand out as worrying for THP owners with ongoing poor running problems: Items NOT covered include...
- Diagnostic time of any type, all adjustments and alignments and service/maintenance operations.
- Mechanical failure caused by faults which existed before the warranty commenced.
Another hmmm. I shudder to think how much "diagnostic time" my THP has required, not to mention workshop time for "adjustments" - and presumably the car's service record will show its engine problems to be "faults which existed before the warranty commenced"? This may need some further investigation.
Many thanks to pat40 for setting the ball rolling on this one.
Cheers for that biggie, my dealer had no idea about it. Still waiting for a call from them 2 days later.
If I had a pound for every time....

The extended warranty will only kick in at the end of the contract warranty (3 years / 60,000 miles) and runs for 12 months or until the clock reaches 120,000 miles.
The pay as you go option continues providing warranty cover until the car is 8 years old or 120,000 miles.
The main reason for the website is to allow dealers to skip the rather complicated FSA guidelines about approved persons as well as providing a central hub.

I called Car Care Plan, the providers of the warranty. They say that some garages charge for diagnostic time, and other include it in the cost of the job. They said that the warranty will pay for the later, so its just a case of checking with the dealership. Also, they said that you can use any VAT registered garage.
Diagnostic time when a fault is found is normally picked up as part of the Contractual warranty, when no fault found tend dealers will tend to charge for workshop time.
That Subaru looks a little odd in my eye.

Thanks for that info, Biggie. I guess it takes us back to the issue with the present recall - if the engine management warning light is illuminated, that's pretty good evidence of a fault, but if its parameters are changed so that it's not so sensitive (which, as I understand it, is what the current recall is all about), then I guess that trying to get the cost of diagnostics of perceived misfiring/power loss covered under an extended warranty may be more problematic. To borrow a phrase, perhaps the new approach will be to "drive it till you break it"?
There's a lively debate on the owners' forums about the relative looks of the GT86 & BRZ. I marginally prefer the looks of the BRZ (which also handles better imo), and it looks fantastic in WR Blue, which is unavailable on the GT86.
I've just tried to take out the option for the 'monthly renewing' annual policy, but the website no longer seems to offer that alternative, although the terms & conditions still refer to it.
B*gger. I really don't want to pay the full amount up front, and the Pay As You Go option isn't transferable if I sell it.
Just got an answer to my own question after a quick phone call to the Citroen Extended Warranty people...
They've ditched the Monthly Renewing option - you now either have to pay the full amount up front (£225 in my case), or choose the PAYG option (£24 pm), which works out more expensive over a full year, and isn't transferable.
I've gone for PAYG.
It will probably be a waste of money - I wonder how much of the warranty work on mine over the last 3 years would have been covered? - but the service manager at the dealers that I go to (we're now on first name terms - isn't that nice!) said the warranty people were OK to deal with, so for peace of mind until I sell it, I reckon it's just about worth it.
