  • Engine differences between DS3 and DS3-Racing

    Hi there,

I have looked left and right in this forum for this answer: what are the differences between the DS3 and the DS3 Racing, engine wise.

I have just acquired a DS3Sport (1.6 THP - 165 HP) in Brazil. Unfortunately here they don't sell the DS3R and any mods I may do on my car I have to import all parts from Europe. Meaning that I am gonna get rapped in taxes so I need to be careful on importing useless parts.

Ideally I would like to have this car running just like the DS3R and if I feel like I need more then I would go for heavy mods.

    Any answers are greatly appreciated!
    Thanks !

Things that'll help you on your way to be a DS3R beater...

    Induction kit,
    More free flowing exhaust,
    DS3R / JCW Turbo from a Mini,
Large FMIC - Front Mount InterCooler,
    Remap.

    Those are the basics.

Pretty much.. Those mods alone will see you way over 210BHP.

I understand that. but how does Citroen extract 200hp from the DS3R ? Does it have different intercooler, intake, turbo or something else? or is it just plain remap.

        thanks!

Different Turbo and remap. The intercooler is just for good measure

Large Intercooler would add 10-15 BHP wouldnt it?
Dont think Induction kit would add much- 3-4 BHP mebes. But would add to efficiency and smoother running

Larger intercooler without any other mods won't give you more top end power.
But what it does is giving you more torque (about 15nm) in lower rpm's and more power after 5500rpm (about 10hp)
Intercooler together with an good free flowing exhaust will give very good gains over the complete rpm range!

^^ Good job I have a decent exhaust, with sports cat to be fitted soon then
Fabian- your 1st line about top end power, seems to contradict the end of your second line?

                  OK, understand what you mean
When people say I have 170hp, that is the maximum power output.
With Top End power I mean the power in the rpm range after the maximum power output, so within the last 1600rpm.

The THP has his top end power around 5000rpm, after that you'll have 1600rpm left.
With the new intercooler the power within the last 1600rpm increased.
So the car feels much more powerfull when going to the red line.
The standard THP is getting out of breath after 5500rpm but with the new intercooler it won't.

An better flowing exhaust will increase this top end power and will give more power over the whole rpm range.
It can be that the maximum torque will be less, but within the whole rpm range, you'll see more torque
