  • NEW SITE MEMBER! Help!

    Hi

I'm new to the site and wondered if anyone had any advice for me that could help, i bought a DS3 in June and have done 5,500 miles and the Service light came on yesterday with a message saying top up oil levels. Should this happen so soon? Sorry if i sound dumb i have never bought a new car before and didnt think it would have used so much oil so early.

If anyone has any advice would be greatly appreciated! :-)

    Thanks

    Hello and welcome.

I would look into this. I have had my car for 38,000 miles and never needed to top up the oil between services.
Be interested to see if others are the same though.

If the car was new then it is possible that the oil was never topped up correctly at PDI, my suggest would to be to check the levels yourself using the dip stick to confirm if the level is too low.

Don't worry - some engines use oil, some don't. Sounds like your oil consumption is similar to mine.

Don't rely on the oil level warning light to tell you when to top up - you should be checking the level regularly.

Edit: Bigfeet beat me to it!

i have got the DStyle plus the 1.6 petrol engine...i have been out and check the oil level myself and it is ok its slightly under the half way mark on the dipstick, do you think this deserves a call to the garage? could it be a dodgy sensor?

              Thanks again!

Don't panic as we have said above, just check the levels and monitor it for a while. Also be careful with the dip stick, very easy to pull it too hard and snap the plastic end off!

Same engine as me, my car likes to drink oil. Just do as the guys mentioned above

Sure its nothing to worry about.

Don't worry! Funnily enough my car has just done 5,500 miles and I had to put a litre and half of oil into it to get the dam oil warning light to turn off the other day!

Also, I would recommend checking your coolant levels as well as mine were nearly on the min level as well!

I brought mine in July and its a 1.6 Dstyle plus.

Not a bad idea, and another word of warning is NOT to neck the washer bottle with water but only fill to the first flange. This gives the water a chance to move if it starts to freeze in the winter, avoids splitting the bottle
