  • Diesel LPG

Was riding my boris bike this morning and i see a van with the sign writing powered by Diesel LPG. This of course sparked my interest in the stuff again. ive always liked lpg as fuel solution but it would never work with diesel of course. Anyhow looking online this morning turns out there is a system to allow injection of about 10 - 20% of LPG into the engine to allow for clean burning of diesel. Means more power, better fuel economy and lower emissions. If there is a way to make my car go faster and use less fuel then im all for it. i realise a remap will do this and im waiting for my warranty to go before i do that but seems like a cool alternative system.

I reserched this idea a couple of years ago. The Americans have been injecting gas into diesels for years, they use it for both performance and economy. Basically it acts as catilizer to help burn off all the diesel inside the cylinder. Today's Diesel engines can burn 80-90% of the fuel that's injected whereas older mechanical systems could only burn 30-50%. Fitting gas on these would be like nitrous on steroids.
Systems can vary in price but reading American forums and websites some were making there own kits up with easily obtainable parts from camping/ hardware stores. Basically a camping gas bottle of propane in the boot, electronic regulator valve, wired to a switch fitted under the throttle pedal so that it opens up the gas at full throttle, and pipes that are simply directed straight into the inlet manifold feeding the engine with the gas.
Zack, before you set off to B&Q and Camping World there are some downsides, the amount of gas added is critical, you don't want to get this wrong.
Also, blow backs in the inlet manifold will cause the gas and air mix to explode!
I'm sure proper kits have lots of fail safe devices to prevent these problems but they weren't cheap.

      Good luck!
