  • Frozen gear stick!

For the last 2 mornings in temperatures about - 7deg, I have had to let my engine run for approx 45 mins before I could engage any gear as it seemed to be frozen.

I bought my car in April 2012 so this is the first winter.
    Anyone else had this problem?

Nope. You tried rubbing a knob of butter around the gear lever?

Edit: But seriously I can't see how that would happen unless you have a lot of water in your gearbox.............. Oil levels all ok?

The fact it moves when the car has warmed up is what's confusing. Do you have any problems changing gear when it's running?

No, runs well. This seems a mystery to most people.

Has it been back to the dealer? What did they say?

I guess that in common with most cars these days the gear lever operates via cables, similar to those on bicycles but far more sturdy.

I've had my mountain bike gear shift freeze due to water getting in between the inner cable and outer but I've never come across it in a car.

I suppose your cables could be damaged or missing a sealing boot or the like........................

            Could also be clutch related...

I think the best answer here is to get it to your dealer and to get one of the Citroen mech's to check it out.

                  Hi

Car has been in the garage and they said it was the cables. So, now got new one's but will have to wait until weather gets really cold again......could be next year! Although we are in England so could be July.....
