Can anyone honestly say that they feel comfortable driving/changing gear with the drivers armrest down? I have tried a few times now since taking delivery of my car but it just feels so uncomfortable! I'm guessing on a long motorway journey it may come in useful?

Only time I used mine was on the Motorway or as a storage compartment.

It's impossible to use for town driving.

My armrest is down all the time and it doesn't bother me at all.

The only time it was a bit fiddly was when using the handbrake but after 9 months I'm now used to it and barely notice.

Only use it on motorways and for storage. Probably what it designed for in just being there to rest your arm on long motorway journeys

Test drove a DS3 the wk end that had an armrest an i can understand what you mean but it only really got in the way when i needed to use the handbrake - was great driving around with the arm resting on it

I find the same and wouldn't be without it. My Seat Leon had one but not near the handbrake which was on the passengers side which meant if you were not careful you ended up grabbing the knee of your front seat passenger

Also have it down all the time. Never really find it in the way.

The Driver's armrest is really only designed for long haul driving, the nature of the design doesn't led its self to rapid gear changing such as town driving. At the end of the day the design is a compromise in which motorway driving won out.

Times four, love mine, it took me a while to get used to applying the handbrake with it down, but do it without thinking now and often use it even on around town trips !
