No issues with gear changes, only time it slightly gets in the way is when using the handbrake but that's easy enough to live with.

only trouble I have with the arm rest is the hand break. Its a bit of a design fault I think. But when it comes to changing gears, I don't have any issues.

I would have gone for the armrest, but when I test drove the DS3, I noticed immediatly it was getting in my way. So no armrest for me. And I don't really miss it, except maybe for the extra storage space..
