  • 2nd gear jumping out

    Hi

My DS3 is just under 2 years old with approx. 10,600 miles on the clock, and for the last 6 months 2nd gear has jumped out with a loud bang making me jump and wondering what's happened This seems to occur once or twice a month and I'm sure I'm engaging the gear properly. My boss also experienced the same problem with a loan DS3. I've never had this happen with other cars.

It's booked in for its first service next week and I've asked the garage to look at it under warranty but got the usual it's intermittent unless it does it when we test drive it etc, they did say they would check the gear linkage and check to see if there are any bulletins about it.

Just wondering if anybody else has experienced this and what was the outcome?

    Thanks

Mine has sometimes jumped out of first with a bang but put that down to me not engaging the clutch enough or pushing the gear stick forward enough!?! Is annoying when it happens tho.

Well the car was serviced today and it seems that I am not alone as Citroen have issued a bulletin about 2nd gear jumping out, it's not me.... but it's got to go back in for them to check the gearing adjustments as the specialist tool they need to do it is on back order from Citroen.

Don't find the DS3 gearbox clunky at all Chris, really easy and light, especially compared to my husband's M3, gave my ankle a good work out on the clutch (it is so stiff) when I stole his car today and the M3 gear box is really notchy as well but it does move !!! Can't complain about the DS3 it's pretty niffty too.

I haven't had the car jump out of gear yet, but I find that going from neutral into 1st can be really frustrating, sometimes 2 or 3 attempts are needed while really slamming/shoving it into the gate. Same with if I'm going into 1st if the car is rolling. 2nd seems to be pretty tall which I'm getting used to. Otherwise I find the gearbox silky smooth.

When I contacted Citroen about the gearbox not going into 1st they just said give it a few more thousand km's and check in again if it is still a problem.

I had a go at my grandpa's 208 with the THP engine, and the gearbox felt a lot smoother and not clunky/notchy but 2nd was still quite tall.

You know something, I have driven plenty of DS3/C3s and I have never come across problems with 1st gear or jumping out of gear before. Granted reverse can sometimes stick and you have to redo the clutch but never the other issues...

Is it possible to get access to this report? I've had my car for the past 8 months, 10.000 km and I've had such problems twice or three times the most. I thought it was me bad shifting it but if other people are complaining maybe I have a faulty gearbox as well.

The Egg I had a similar problem with my old Corsa, it wouldn't go into gears but it was old and the gear linkage had to be replaced.

Marioiturri - I saw the report on the desk when I picked up my car but didn't get given a copy.
