Engine / Exhaust tone

I'm a couple of weeks into ownership of my DStyle eHDI 90 now Great car!
The sound of the car is a bit confusing though. When idling its really quiet for a diesel but there are times at certain revs when it sounds a bit raspy - almost like the exhaust is blowing a bit. Sometimes I think "that sounds really sporty!" and other times "that sounds rough!".

I'm not sure if that is just the characteristics of the engine/exhaust or if it really is blowing a bit? I put my hand over the exhaust this morning and didn't really hear anything escaping further up, but there was a lot of traffic flying past so it was a bit noisy. I might try the soapy bubbles test this weekend

Depends if the exhaust warms up it will sound slightly different mine does when you give it's some big revs for a while or high speed for a few miles sounds nice when going down the gears
4-5k revs sound nice

Whilst my engine is different to yours, and have aftermarket cat and exhaust, I am still amazed at how different the exhaust tone can be!
Sometimes quiet even when belting, and sometimes rally cross when pulling into Tesco lol

How warm the engine is (warmer louder) and whether its cold, or foggy, re the air intake all makes a difference

And it's never the tone u want it to be, when you want it to be

If the tone is like cliff Richard then take it back immediately to dealer. If the tone is like guns n roses then put yr pedal to the metal n enjoy!!
