  • 2010 (59) 1.6 Dsport THP - Should I buy?

30k miles sub £10k... been test driving a few cars today and came across this DS3 which has taken my fancy and had the best drive out of the abarth 500, adam glam and mini cooper convertible i've drove (coming from an R50 mini)... now I really like it, but i've just done some reading about engine problems... I really don't fancy problems .

What checks can I do? I checked for recalls and none have been made.

I wouldn't touch a 2010 with a 10 foot pole. Much as I hate to say it it's To much risk. If you can't spring for the updated thp155 then go for the 110 diesel it really is a great motor. I have a 2011 150thp and have not had any problems but lots of 2010s have.

59 plate THP will give you trouble in time no doubt...timing chain, fuel pump decoke blah blah blah.
Monkeynuts will be along soon to put the final nail in this coffin
Try and find a late 11 plate car or newer, touch wood this will be a pleasure to own.

Been on this site a fair while, and not seen "traditional" THP problems any later than around March 2011
And I took an avid interest

TBH I thought I would never say this but the 110Bhp Diesel is a good all round motor .No road tax .......cheaper insurance and in my case over half the monthly fuel bill against the THP.

Yes the THP was a really good Drive and maybe I was unlucky but the Derv is a all round performer and when the funds allow it will be mapped coz I am impressed now and a tweek will make it even better .

Ok did I slag off the THP :Joni:............shit I must be mellowing

Thanks guys, so a similar trimmed 110bhp diesel motor is probably going to cost me a little more? I'll have to see if the drive feels similar but perhaps the diesel lump is a little heavier? I am used to the power of my boyfriends torquey mk4 tdi golf though so I appreciate the derv power .

I got like for like with trim between the two top spec in both 6 speed box .....leather seats and other than the zip of the THP the torque of the Diesel is great out of corners .

The driving style is slightly different and yes the engine is heavier which makes it understeer more but you soon get used to it .

And if you want get it remapped and then it will fly .......................Steve

It's not as simple as going by reg date on a THP as there where quite a few Model 10/15 running around after the change of engine, what you need is a model 17 or later THP and the only way to really tell that is by the VIN number. As a rule of thumb anything after March 2011 should be okay but if you need me to check then PM me.

When I asked the model number they didn't know what I was on about
Just said built early November 2012
when did the white light gauges come in- thought it was only from Decem 2012 builds?
