          A good firm grip and a hard push is often the best way isn't it ? After the initial moment of pain it should immediately feel better and each subsequent stroke should be a lot easier.

            Once you have mastered how to handle your own knob, getting it into the right slot should be easy enough.
            You could even try different techniques on a friends knob to see what one works best.

                Is your knob adjusted for religious purposes? This may also be the issue with is getting hot.

                    Might be a little uncomfortable when in use WTF, I suppose if you kept it on until you needed to use it and then took it off and went bare back it might work ?

                              Perhaps get one of those cocktail umbrellas and stick it on the end of your Knob to shade it from the Heat
