Hi guys
Firstly, I'm not here to slate the THP engine... at its best I think it is a cracking motor.
I've just returned from a break with some friends, one of whom drives a 2012 62 reg Dsport Plus THP, in White with Fuschia pink roof.. (you've probably seen my pictures of our cars on Instagram!). When purchased, the dealer said it was the 155 engine (not sure how to clarify??).
Anyway, one morning we were firing up our DS3s and her Dsport made an alarming sound, rattling violently like an old tractor! Having had TWO timing chain failures on my turbo Mini Cooper S (shares engine with the Dsport), I instantly recognised the sounds and am pretty sure the issue is timing chain related....
The same day, we'd returned to the cars after a few hours and pulling off in reverse her car made a terrible low pitched growling/grinding noise, but it sounded metallic if that makes sense? I'm no expert so please bare with me... Throughout the continuing journey my friend said the car experienced phases of power loss too.
I know some of these issues are well documented, the real shock for me was that they came from a recent model, 155 THP, with around 10k miles.
They are booking the car in this week for a diagnosis, I will let everyone know the results.
On a lighter note, my little Vti 120 performed exceptionally for all 500 miles of our first proper adventure together around the Lake District
